I foresee many, many cosplayers basing themselves on Nana (starring Mika Nakashima)'s PV for Hitoiro. The Glay song grew on me and the PV is pretty cool. Mika Nakashima can't pull off the black-woman-look, but she can definitely be Nana. If you are 100lbs overweight, please do not attempt the Nana-attire in public...it's probably best if you are 20 underweight. (MU ddl for those who pass by here.)

Reira (starring Yuna Ito)'s Truth PV showcases her in long flowing gowns near some German castle ruins. The song sounds like one of Josh Groban's pop tunes. It's quite listenable, but generic. The actors playing her backup band are pretty cute. Music-wise, I think Olivia does a better job creating interesting music for Reira.

...speaking of Josh Groban. His new album, Awake, isn't too thrilling due to his choice in music, but considering it was 50% off I can't complain. It's likable.

Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi 1! 'Ayakashi' is the what ppl are shortening it to...i think.

+ Nice animation & production by Bones.
+ The main character, Yuki, has sparkley shoujo eyes!
+ Very interesting premise.
+ Porno Graffitti's Winding Road is the ending song with plain visuals...but it's a nice song.
- Standard pop tune with a harmonica for the opening song by Ikimonogatari.
- I have some reservations about that lame-looking weapon shown in the preview.

Quick impression~ A bunch of cute peasant kids are praying for a good crop of rice when a big dinosaurus-looking thing appears. Yuki and a mother & son are running away from something. The dinosaur/Youi attacks. Yuki gets his magical shoujo powers and attacks. There are some cute male (possibly fanfic-worthy) couples who also can see the dinosaur. I like this show. It's unique in the odd genres it seems to mix and somewhat funny. The characters have an old anime design to them and are fun to watch. ++

La Corda D'oro -primo passo- 1! hyuu~ decided to watch this after all...after all, Jun Fukuyama is in it. haha.

+ Pretty guys each with different colored hair.
- eh, plot what plot?

Quick impression~ At a school where talented students who study music are separated from the other students, a normal girl sees a fairy who wants her to help him create 'world peace' through music...in return she gets amaaazzzing musical abilities and her pick of a hot boyfriend. It's a standard magical shoujo series. My guess is that the green haired boy gets the girl, but not before the blue-haired boy gets the stick pulled out of his ass. Yes, no more for me...really.

yeah...that was 5 episodes. still have the jdrama to whine about.
How much do I want a HUMONGOUS Suou Tamaki plushie?!

Ouran Koukou Hostub 24! Kyouya was initially the Inui-character (from Tenipuri) of the show with the notebook full of data, but without the pervy juice drink. This episode shows us how Kyouya met Tamaki and how Kyouya progresses from small purple flowers to one giant-ass rainbow flower. All interaction between the two make me ♥ the show more and more. ++

Nana 21! wasn't the review episode..that's 21.5 which I will be skipping. 21 was basically Hachi saying "I shouldn't sleep with the hot rock star because that's bad and makes me a slut, but hey, I'm naked and he's naked." Other than that big revelation, Nana's outfit for the concert was nice.

Also that whole FMA Viz edit where changed a cross-shaped rock to a rounded rock slab irks me. Sure reading shouldn't be controversial at all. A little girl splattered and lopped off body parts is much safer for the reader. I'm surprised they didn't erase Hitler's moustache from the movie since you know FMA is the Pope's favorite manga story.
...and I like the ads for these usa companies which advertise positions for translators, editors, proofreaders, etc who do NOT need prior experience, who will not get paid, and will work long hours.
Ouran Koukou Hostub 22! is part one of the story featuring Kasunoda or Casanova or Bossa Nova as various characters call him. He seems to be a gay character in denial. He obviously has a very devoted uke(or seme) who sweeps his porch for him, but right now, he is simply focused on having friends which is very cute. Mori's facial expressions totally made me laugh everytime I watched that scene. Great episode and I'm looking forward to the next. +++

Honey and Clover 10! Although Morita is an engaging character, I'm glad *spoilers* that Hagu doesn't actually pick him...or Takemoto *poor average joe*. Hanamoto-sensei seems to be in that particular situation that Mayama was talking to Takemoto about in regards to Rika. Not sure if that would lead to OTP-ness between Hagu and him which would be semi-icky...seeing how he is a parent-figure, but it's very sweet and he doesn't seem to be so weak of character to end messed up no matter what Hagu does...at least I hope not. This is the first episode that I noticed Depapepe's music. I'm sure they were in the previous episodes, but I hope they get more airtime in the next couple episodes. They are soothing to listen to.

Nana 20! Hachi-centric episode as she pines over various guys and gets fired. It's nice to know that she isn't too stupid to realize what she is doing in regards to her somewhat insightful monologue, but it's annoying to watch her choose the stupid route. Shin's supposed prostitution is a tad interesting. The corruption of youth...quite fun. He'll probably end up with Reira. *spoilers* read that the Nana's are engaged. hm..that's a tad uninspired. I think the next episode is a re-cap one. Didn't they have one already? Nana fans are too inept to keep track of what is going on?
Tsubasa Chronicle S2 40! is the first and last episode of Kurogane's all-too-predictable background story. I skipped last 2 episodes for fear of tainting my impression of the series as a whole. Bee Train saved up some time and money to make this episode not-so-bad. Like in the first season when they made the Seishirou story look like a real action series. As for Kurogane's background story, his ma and pa were killed by grizzly bears and in a fit of grief and rage, Kuro kills the whole town...or something like that. The slicing of his hand by Tomoyo was cut from the anime. Why? hell if I know. There was also a bout of bad Zorro background music in this episode. Beneath all my cynicism, I did enjoy it...even if that pretty scene with Kurogane and Tomoyo was omitted.

Nana 19! Ren and Nana make up and 'play' around...since babies aren't supposed to show until the last ten episodes or so. It wasn't that hot since naked, these characters look very chopstick thin and awkward. Hachi's thoughts about Yasu were amusing, as was the smoking bit with Shin. This episode covered the last bit of the live-action movie as Hachi meets Takumi for the first time. There was a new ending song, Starless Night, by Olivia insp. Reira. ann.com reports that Olivia will also do the opening from 23 on. I'm not into Olivia's music that much, so I hope Anna returns and does another Nana/Blackstone song. Rumorwise- read that the actress who played Hachi-Nana in the first movie didn't want to do the smut parts in the second, so will not be returning. Sounds like a bad career move on her part considering how popular the first was. Also, everyone wants L'arc~en~Ciel to do the theme song for the 2nd movie. so do I! even if a male-led band has nothing to do with Nana.
There hasn't been much to watch lately. I guess with the holiday or some sports-related thing (plus fandom/fansub wanking) there had been breaks in programming. Here's what I got caught up on.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

xxxHOLiC 18 & 19! Episode 18 covered the travel-with-the-spirits-to-get-alcoholic-nectar story. Although I wasn't expecting the anime to capture the beauty and complexity of the manga drawings, the anime did have a nice stylistic interpretation. It was fun to watch. Episode 19 covered the snowman/fight contest. I think this was in the manga...a side story or something, but the anime re-told it to suit the media. It wasn't as funny as it could have been. Poor Watanuki has a great seiyuu with some great acting, but Doumeki just doesn't cut it as a straight man...I guess in every sense of the word.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Nana 17 & 18! cover the Trapnest concert. Hachi gets all anxious over Nana's reunion with Ren. She's like that gossip in high school that gets overly excited about other people's business. Ren isn't particularly handsome or interesting, but Yasu, Nobu and Shin are fun to watch. Reira also seems to be an annoying character. Maybe I should count the likable characters against the annoyances to see if the anime is worth continuing.
Likable: (Yasu, Nobu, Shin, Jun, Kyosuke, Nana, possibly Takumi) =7
Dislikable: (Hachi, Shouji, Ren, Reira, Sachiko) =5
haha, 7 has it.

Ouran Koukou Host Club 17! is a humorous episode revolving around Kyouya. Tamaki and gang drag a sleeping Kyouya to a commoner's mall. They run off to have fun leaving Kyouya behind without a wallet or cell. I do love that WcDonalds appears all shows. The facial expressions of Kyouya and Haruhi are great in this episode. Haruhi's analysis of Kyouya was interesting. It made me want to see the background stories of how Tamaki met everyone in the club. Fun episode..ya!

Honey and Clover II 5! brings Yamada's weepiness to a sorta end and starts Morita and Kaoru's story. Takemoto's admiration of Mayama was very cute. Another good episode from this series. I've never smelled olive groves before. The health spa looked like odd fun. ++

Welcome to NHK! 3! I skipped episode 2...whoops. It's odd that an anime show about the patheticness of otakus...and/or hikikomori is so well-made...that it'll just attract the thing that it criticizes. Anyway, besides the Roundtable link, this show is also similar to Chobits in terms of character design and visual production...set and other stuff. There's also the "even seemingly pathetic losers deserve love" theme running through the anime. Not sure what this is really about (encouraging viewers to live life or saying it's ok to be like that), but the show is again, well-contructed. Nevertheless, end of the road for me; the comedic moments aren't too successful. The main character obsessing over naked girls gets old. The female character who wants to make 'project' out of him isn't too interesting. Sooooo, no fun...('cept for....haha, use qoogle and mindows xx for porn-search...hhahahaa).

Innocent Venus 1! I did the fastforward version of viewing this new show. Jin and Jo and random comedic kid try to protect Sana from the military. Much of the population of Earth was destroyed by hurricanes. A new system of living was devised where the rich get richer and the poor live in slums. huh. The anime is trying to be serious, action-packed and cute via Sana...code name, Venus. It's a bit dull 'though it might pick up since it is slated for only 12 episodes.

Nana 16! eyeballs and noses are randomly placed on the characters' heads. Ren's relationship to Nana is revealed to Hachi. *snooze*

Nana 15! was the best episode so far. Junko and Kyosuke are a cute, humorous couple. I like how they know what's going on, but they handle everything with a do-nothing approach. Blackstones' first concert was pretty nicely handled (even though they performed for about 5 seconds). Everyone had on cool fashions. The little details in the clothing were pretty fun, like Nobu's T-shirt. Hachi-Nana was even a bit sympathetic in this episode...if not a tad insane. The ending was a bit ominous..sounds like someone will die or something. ah well, only 35 more episodes to go and we'll know...or not, since the manga is not even finished.

xxxHOLiC 15! is the end of the twin story...zzz.

Nana 12! *spoilers* Shouji cheats on Hachi with someone who is exactly like Hachi...but younger-looking...pervert and lame, he is. Junko had a stylish v-neck shirt with a long jean skirt and cool hat on...I want that outfit.

shopping

Jun. 25th, 2006 08:54 am
shopping was sucky yesterday. customer service was crap. salespeople suck. then i get home and get a trial of amazon prime...yay. cutting out the middle man is so nice.

Nana 11! Hachi is broke and out of a job. Sachiko and Shouji will eventually get together since they are the two most annoying people on the show. Yasu and Nana should get together since that would be a nice story. The Nana mp3 players look nice. I want a cute mp3 player, too. hmm...that's it.

haha, Anti-smoking in Nana protest.

A couple leecherific manga recs (based on chapter one releases):
Mozart Doesn't Sing Lullabies by Arisukawa Rui (scanlated by Entropy. Other than having a kick-ass title, this is a well-drawn manga about a young Beethoven who apparently will solve the mystery of Mozart's lullabies.

Conversational English School Wars by Matsumoto Tomo (scanlated by Condensation. Arisu starts attending an English-language class. There are foreign bishies and she..the shoujo main character that she is...hates them. They get intrigued by her. And there is English to be learned.

....I should find something that has an ending in sight. darn.
Nana 10! Shin has a nice voice and he's cute. If only the story skipped all the Sachiko, Shouji, Ren and preggie parts....it'd be like an interesting lesbian version of Gravitation. One of these days I'll stop watching this show...still have no clue why I continue...*meh*
is yummy...

Jyu Oh Sei 9! Ah, kinky spandex-y smut. Y'have to admit that the author doesn't have much respect for the female characters. They kinda get their whole I-wanna-make-your-baby thing out and then get thrown to the side...leaving room for the meatier part of the story. When the bad guy gets his way, his character rating gets another gold star and a couple hearts. Third manipulates Thor into killing Zagi...thus making Thor the King of the Beasts...rowr.

Nana 9! After 4/5 hours, the anime still hasn't gotten past the movie...and still has not given up any crucial revelations. In episode 9 Hachi does her girly girl act and near the end after you almost want to smack her around, Nana gets to sing. Nana's singing was pretty good. If they keep using that song...I may even grow to like it.
Rose by Anna inspired by NANA (Blackstones)'s PV is out. Anna doesn't look the part as much as Mika Nakashima did..must be the lack of rail-thin limbs, but she does know how to rock. It's not a remarkable song, but enjoyable enough. I hope that they have more music in the anime.

a little pain by Olivia inspired by Reira (Trapnest)'s PV is out, too. I like the goth atmosphere...very pretty. Also, it's an unremarkable song, but hey, that's just my opinion.
Tsubasa Chronicle S2 5! Syaoran and all land at sea. Chibi-Fujitaka is there. It turned out to be an odd episode with bad music, but Fujitaka is cute. Chii, Touya and Yukito are in the next episode.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Nana 8! Yasu is a nice character. They should show more of him. Nanas go shopping. Hachi is born. The episode was somewhat cute, but a tad boring. Will the singing parts come in soon?
Nana 7! Thought about dropping this after reading recent manga chapters and seeing how the first half of this episode was a rehash...again, but the last half of the episode was funny. I still want to see the music parts of the anime (and the fashion parts), so I may be able to hang in there...even though Shouji and Ren are the most retarded boyfriends a girl could ever hope to have. (really hoping that both Nanas will end up together.)

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi 8! finished off the island story. It wasn't as interesting as last week's episode, but the writers keep throwing little plot candies out..like Koizumi's associates.

mmm...ordered some manga....waiting, waiting.....
Nana 6! was a fan(?)-generated rehash of episode 1 with a couple extra scenes of Shouji who looks more lame than before...which in turn makes Hachi Nana look more stupid. I'm still hoping for a lesbian wedding.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Ouran Koukou Host Club 6! They have Ayame, Momoji, semi-Kyou, semi-Hatori, annoying fangirl and now they bring in Hiro. OK, it's not the same cast, but it's getting there. I did enjoy this episode with 'Hiro' and 'Kisa'.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

xxxHOLiC 6! Someone who uses their persocom too much gets help from Yuuko. hmmm.... and yes, Kazahaya and Rikou show up. (They were too busy making out in the back room to be in the show more than 5 seconds). I'm getting used to this anime and it's kinda enjoyable. Definitely not high in quality, but still, it's got style.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Blood+ 29! The bad guys in the black cloaks turn out to be not-so-bad, but then more bad guys are plopped into the show. Once you get into this show, it's pretty good. The dull parts are with the peripherial characters...and there are alot of them. If it were just Saya, Haji and Riku, it'd be a darn cute story. ♥

Arashi is a group that always entertains me. There's the live performance of their new song, Kitto Daijoubu. (I'd never buy their album, but I do like watching them dance and I like watching them act in jdramas)

Plastic Tree's Namida Drop is the ending song for Glass no Kantai...which features guys who could possibly be girls. I didn't get into it enough to care. Plastic Tree is a jrock group that I get into every once in a while. Their PV isn't too impressive, but it's a likable song.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

xxxHOLiC 5! Watanuki is given a gift which is in turn given to a fox-boy. Food and alcohol are consumed. Clover-birds sing. Maybe this would be better if Yuuko did a bit of narration...like in Mushishi. It's hard to get into a story when all they say is that it's bad to go out during a full moon on Friday the 13th and play the word-game to protect yourself...without any other real moral/explanation. ah well. The fox-boy blushing was cute.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Ouran Koukou Host Club 5! The twins fight. Another enjoyable fluffy episode with a drop of angst and insight. Kaoru and Hikaru are exactly like all the other red-headed twins on the market. Twin-cest is all over those two.

Blood+ 26 & 27! I like Riku. I liked him ever since he tried to feed Haji barbeque at the beach party. That's when I liked Haji even more. Playing the cello at a beach party is quite the thing. I hope vampire Riku doesn't go insane and off himself. Riku and Haji can be the token hot vampire couple. Sure, Riku is only 12-ish...but Armand was around that age. All the show is missing is Lestat. In episode 27 Kai gets some spotlight as he makes friends with the bad guys who aren't really bad. Diva makes a move. cliffhanger...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Nana 5! Nobu and Yassan are pretty decent characters. Oosaki Nana is also interesting when she isn't mooning over Ren...so only 10% of the time, she is likable.

Good Witch of the West Astrea Testament 2! Not quite the type of show I thought it was going to be. Can't really watch Firiel Dee be so dumb anymore. I am fond of Roux..ie Rumplestiltskin. Thought this was going to be a twisted fairytale, but it seems more the traditional type. ah well.
Nana 4! was pretty dull despite all the rampant sex and nudity. ok, only one shot. Whiny Nana gets some before her boyfriend, Shoji, goes to Tokyo. Rocker Nana gets some before her boyfriend, Ren, goes to Tokyo. The lesson? Go to Tokyo for sex...don't forget birth control. Nana's corner at the end of the anime is pretty lame. Lemme know if the manga's plot gets better...spoilers please.

Gakuen Heaven 2! Main uke character gets molested by all the major semes on campus. Blushing is mandatory. The anime is clumsily made..thus, the hot scenes turn out to be awkward moments in time.

Kurosagi 2! Not in the mood for this kind of drama. Yamapi is cute, but the characters aren't very interesting and the story is entirely too predictable.

I'm dropping all 3 of these shows...*snoooze*

Happy early birthday to [livejournal.com profile] bumpybear who is now using her journal to do quick crits of jdrama. Been enjoying Pride at her rec. It combines hockey, cheesy romance and songs from Queen in a nice mix.

Nana 1! I finally got around to watching...
- Poor Watanuki looks fat next to these characters.
+ Like Paradise Kiss, the production is almost flawless...Madhouse Studios ♥.
+ The opening by Anna Tsuchiya and ending by Olivia are nice rock tunes with great visuals. Anna Tsuchiya played Ichigo in Shimotsuma Monogatari (an entertaining movie similar to Nana).
+++ Romi Paku (who is also in Puripuri and was Edward Elric) and Ishida Akira...need I say more?
+ The cute moments are cute.
- The story.

Quick summary: Two girls with the the same name explore some hot passionate action together...oops, that would make it too interesting. Sweet Nana and Rocker Nana meet and end up living together. Watch how they survive...it's like real life..so they say.
My opinion: There once was a time that I enjoyed soap operas...back when I was like 13. I would have been obsessed with this show. Paradise Kiss was eh..eh. The Nana manga is eeh. The fashion and other visuals are great so I will end up watching. I enjoyed the live-action movie and the anime has definite potential for being more than girls crying about boys and life.
