Seirei no Moribito 22-26! the end! Aw, Tanda gets rejected in episode 22 while he, Balsa & Chagum comfortably ride out the winter.

Side note: Laruku's Shine (the opening song) isn't on their new album, Kiss? Business and marketing are such mean things. well, I guess it's only a mediocre song at best...

That's the last of the summer anime I had been watching. Seirei no Moribito was the most satisfying. Darker than Black was second. They both will probably never become popular, since they lacked true fanservice and the action level was incredibly less than what you'd expect from those kind of shows. Summer really belonged to the fanservice-filled dramas. Coffee Prince was No. 1 in that regard.

Speaking of fanservice, yes, Naruto Shippuden's new opening features skin and snake love. *squee*

Hype

From all the posts and news articles, I thought she'd be more fat, more naked and perform more badly than she did. If you'd missed it, mtv.com has the whole show up for streaming on their site. It was all bland if you ask me. When did Timbaland and P.Diddy take over mtv?...oh yeah, probably years and years ago.

Something better than mtv...

Seirei no Moribito 20-21! Balsa, Chagum, Tanda and Torogai settle in a hidden cave for the winter. Chagum is mildly depressed after hearing about his brother's death and about his impending one. Balsa tells her story. It's always nice to hear the background stories of characters you've grown to like.

New Heroes cms have started...but I don't see a start date. House starts Sept 25. The radio personnel are hyping 'Pushing Daisies' and 'Bionic Woman', but they look very snooze-worthy. Anyway, is Smallville's Bizarro as funny as the cartoon version was?

Claymore 1! Quite a few people are saying that this is the best anime this season. My sister assures me that although that sentiment is mostly because of females in tight tights with big swords chopping monsters heads off, the anime is worth watching ...weeeell, she quit the anime halfway through and is reading the manga now. It's about a world where humans hire 'claymores' to kill monsters/youma. Claymores are female half-youma half humans. In the first episode, we are introduced to Claire who gets rid of a youma in a town, and picks up a stray human boy who was thrown of the town. Another excellent Madhouse production. I'll probably watch the rest in chunks.

Seirei no Moribito 18-19! I'd forgotten that Chagum used to be a cry-baby, but he can be forgiven since it was brought out from hearing how dismal his fate is.

Love☆Com 20! Enjoyable happy date episode.

Naruto Shippuden 26! Great episode as the fight between Sakura, Chiyo and Sasori reaches the end. Love the one-up-man-ship in Naruto! And for those reading the manga, the recent chapter gives us a decription of Naruto's parents...hm, is his mother alive? Oh and Sasuke might actually fight Itachi soon. Yay for fun Naruto! Maybe it'll wrap up before I become a middle-aged old woman.

Rie Fu's new PV, 5000 miles is a weird video, but the song is pleasant as always. Didn't know she paints.
There was a storm that past through Thursday afternoon knocking down trees and powerlines and causing floods. Therefore, I strained my eyes catching up on my reading by the power of a dozen candles. Reading by candlelight sounds romantic and soothing, but it isn't. The light is too dim and flickers too much; also no A/C->hot->fire->more hot. And the smell of scented wax isn't that great; blech, who gave us the peony-scented candle?. Anyway, glad to see lj didn't blow up during my 2.5 day absence. What have I missed?

Love★Com 18! Koizumi reaches her 54th birthday and is still mooning over Otani, but there is progress. There's even a symphonic overture pinging in during the special moment. Gotta love Koizumi's reaction.

I hope that's some form of Dr. Spock in Gundam00.

Seirei no Moribito 17! is another solid episode as the chase is on. Poor Suga. He tries to be well-informed, but lacks critical information and he finds Chagum, but gets beaten up by a single blow from a woman. And for a character with long purple hair, he isn't that cute.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Romeo x Juliet 17! Ah! good episode. If only all the previous episodes could be erased, this would be a great series. In episode 17, you've got revelations that rival those found in soap operas. Oh darn~ the next episode looks like a filler.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Naruto Shippuden 24! Is there going to be a new opening anytime soon? The visuals for this episode's opening & ending were promoting the new Naruto movie. In this episode, the Team Gai's fights with their clones are entertaining. Sakura's looking rather butch these days, isn't she?
High and Mighty Color's new single, Dreams, is a nice duet that features the male vocalist a little more. The PV is a tad boring though. The c/w tracks, Feel Like Dance and Mushroom, are pretty surprisingly gay pop tunes. *mashiroomu mashiroomu*

Seirei no Moribito 16! Impressive guy with the photographic memory. Ok, the emperor doesn't mind that the kingdom was built on a lie and that his one son is dead. He instead, wants the other son back. And the conflict is that Balsa will probably think that Shuga and the assassins are after his and her lives again. Mildly tame, but overall, still a solid story. I'm glad the animation is quite consistent. There has been no fanservice whatsoever...*sigh*.

Romeo x Juliet 16! was a terribly animated, dull episode focusing on Hermione.
Darn, broke my post-a-day streak.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Darker than Black 15! More Pizza Hut. I like that they have "Look" and "Nifty" in the one scene. Glad I stuck with this series. It's slowly been building into interestingly complex show. In this episode (with new op/ed), November and his group try to find February/Amber. Once Hei finds out she is in town, he goes hunting for her. She is traveling with a cute kid with mis-match eyes, Maki, who's been blowing things up around town. No clue about the what's and why's. There seems to be a bunch of scientists who use contractors to do something and during the previous something South America was destroyed or something....yeah, something like that.

Seirei no Moribito 15! Definitely didn't expect Sagum to bite the dust. He always looked weird, so I thought he was sick or evil. Was he still alive at the end? Anyway, Balsa and Chagum travel to find out more about the egg.

Romeo x Juliet 15! In the last episode, Romeo failed to make Pinocchio into a real boy, but becomes friends with his mining buddies. We also get a new ending song which is definitely not as jarring as the previous one, but still a boring female pop song. Blech boring, low quality episode.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Seirei no Moribito 14! randomly reminded of Star Wars in the beginning..probably 'cause the old woman reminds me of Yoda. Anyway, Balsa and the other good guys learn of the true nature of the egg inside Chagum and that guy in the court also reads up on the truth. So now we've got the characters who will want the truth out in the open against those who will want to conceal it. The question is not who will win, but will Chagum lay the egg out his butt? Good episode.

Romeo x Juliet 14! Romeo is put in charge of the mines as punishment for letting Juliet go. His evil father is pretty tame against his family. Juliet and the others leave town to regroup. There's a a funny part where Romeo says 'Don't diss my mother' or something like that. Anyway, this episode reeks of bad writing. Hope they are saving up for some quality Tree parts or Tybalt action.

Chika Umino's new manga, The Lion of March, has a CM. I recall someone saying it is in the same universe as Hachikuro? Anyway, it's about shogi and features a child-like girl...who is probably 20 or so like Hagu and a normal-looking guy with geek glasses.

And HMC's new PV, Dreams, is dull, but the song is nice. It's the new ending for DtB.
Seirei no Moribito 13! Getting into some action in this episode as Balsa is challenged by someone from her past. Her vow to not kill is threatened. Her concern for Chagum makes her a tad unhinged. Nice spear-fighting for about 10 seconds there.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Naruto Shippuden 19! More fighting...ya! but 75% of the time was spent staring-down the enemy. The fight between Chiyo and Sasori was actually very cool in the manga so I hope the anime is just as exciting. There was a new ending song with still images of the characters in a high school manga-like setting. (no episode next week)

Romeo x Juliet 12! If Romeo and Juliet were any stupider, they would have already been dead by now. In this episode, they play the domestic couple while everyone searches for them. Of course they get caught since they both lack common sense and sword-fighting skills. The show tries to push their tragic love onto the viewer, but the audience can't feel sympathy for them if the writers keep making them act like blind hillbillies in love. On second thought, I'd probably feel sorry for the hillbillies.

Love★Com 12! Another Valentine's Day and Koizumi makes chocolate for Ootani again. Nice episode with minimal tears. Will they finally kiss at the end? oops, I guess this isn't a short series; there's a bunch more episodes. *smoochas*

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Seirei no Moribito 12! seems like samples of L'arc~en~ciel's whole new album got leaked...but only concert rips...haha. Maybe full-body searches are needed. Oh and the episode...another great episode. Although this series is not turning out to be the action-packed historical fantasy that it first appeared to be, it is a compelling show with interesting characters. For some reason it reminds me of those old Biblical cartoons because there's some sort of lesson to be learned. In this episode Chagum confronts a bully and learns how to fight...sort of. Was the snake eyeing the frog at the end? *gulp*

Emma got licensed by Rightstuf, sub-only, box set (♥ sub-only box sets!). That's a good deal (if it were a show worth watching more than once). Here's hoping for more sub-only box sets! (pssst, Nodame & Ouran)

The Zetsubou Sensei hompage has the shortest untelling promo vid seen this season. Hopefully, there's more coming.

ETA: Amused~ Do a search on youtube for 'skin' and 'ax' and you'll find quite a few SKIN concert samples. Although the video quality is pretty crappy, they sound interesting and some people actually were pretty close. Can't wait for official release news. 5 hour long bag checks seem effective, yes? I think to attend one of their concerts will be my next music-oriented goal. ♥

Romeo x Juliet 10! Gotta give a gold star to the translator who translated Tybalt's description of Francisco as, 'limp-wristed blond fop,' because that is probably the best and most accurate description of Francisco ever. This episode featured the balcony scene which was pretty lame in terms of romance. Can't really take a guy standing on a bush too seriously. Can't really take this show very seriously when its dramatizations are so obvious. Still, would like to see what Montague's tree is all about...I'm hoping it's not the tree of life which brings Romeo and Juliet back to life when they die...or something equally sentimental.

Seirei no Moribito 11! This is centered around Tanda and his abilities as a medical person. He gets to visit the land beyond as he frees his soul from his body to save another soul. This is another decent episode with pretty animation; love the rich colors they use in this show.

Music:
The opening to Romeo x Juliet is out, Lena Park's "inori ~You Raise Me Up~". She has a decent voice, but it's a little grating or just high pitched? d/l? I'd have preferred a Korean male pop singer singing this

Or Namie Amuro would have sounded really lovely singing that song. Her new album, "PLAY," is out. This album and her recent PVs remind me a little of Gwen Stefani's newer stuff with all the horn sounds, but without the little Japanese backup pips. Never really noticed Namie Amuro's music before, since it's similar to what you can listen to on the radio, but this album has fun, attractive pop and dance tunes all the way through; 7 new songs plus Hide & Seek, Baby Don't Cry, Funkytown, Can't Sleep.. and the oft mentioned, ill-titled Violet Sauce (love the swooshy dress in that video).
I was very close to buying a new sundress for an upcoming social thing when I noticed that it looked almost like the white sundress I got last year. So...did a little DIY googling and bought the recommended dye for $3 and now have a cute semi-new dress. Still want to change the hem and create straps, but that might be beyond my skills. ([livejournal.com profile] bumpybear, I dyed it a terracotta color in case you were curious.) Don't worry. This ain't a craft blog yet..haha.

Seirei no Moribito 10! Chagum learns about gambling and is unsurprisingly good at it. The plot has been fairly easy-going these past episodes which means there should be a conflict soon? I hope.

Also watched 2 unexpectedly depressing movies this weekend..guh. The main character died in both movies and even though coincidentally, they both got reborn, that isn't my favorite kind of ending.
Is it too much to ask that one US-licensed manga I buy NOT have a spelling mistake or gender error or missing verbs or wrong translations? And English was actually one of my weaker subject areas in school..."SCHOOL" was spelled wrong!!!! they forgot the 'C' and no, it wasn't part of a joke. Who are they hiring as editors!? Spell-check deficient twelve year olds from the middle of a poverty-stricken country?

ANYWAY eh hem.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Emma S2 7! Hans, poor Hans. You are neither quite as happening as Hakim nor do you have a harem, but you sure try. Mr. Campbell is creepy...I foresee more creepiness.

Seirei no Moribito 9! Why does L'arc's opening song sound like it's coming from a cave? In this episode, we are shown that Chagum's brother, Sagum, is a decent guy.

Love★Com 9! There is much sighing and crying.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Seirei no Moribito 8! heeeey, this actually has a thoughtful script. The original novels are licensed by Scholastic already? *spoilers* In this episode Balsa and Chagum visit a swordsmith to get Balsa's spear repaired. The swordsmith doesn't want to repair a criminal's weapon and thus, wants to hear both sides of the story before deciding whether to take her job. He coincidentally happens to be repairing the swords of the assassins, so he conversationally gets the whole story out of them. The only downside to this show is that I keep waiting for fanservice of some kind...but it ain't happening. I do enjoy the dialogue and consistently great animation. The shade of blue that they use for the sky is pretty, too.
Gotta love how wank rises and falls so quickly. Glad to see ppl f-locking their journals and admitting to having pervy, possible illegal things written in their journals...or admitting to being weak-minded.

Anyway,
>Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Emma S2 5! mmm...Fleshy Rubenesque nude woman...Mrs. Molders is hot. (pinchable peaches is what my art prof liked to say) And a little tug on a corset, makes Emma's cleavage nice and plump...poor William had to take a peek. Thus, good episode all around.

Seirei no Moribito 7! Chagum learns about the almighty dollar..or yen.

Seirei no Moribito 6! Like with R x J, episode 6 has decidedly made me want to watch more. Balsa comes up with a clever plan to foil the king's army and assassins. I thought the assassins were trying to kill Chagum, but they looked pretty reluctant and sad. They totally want to capture and cuddle him. My guess is that Chagum will learn the ways of the common folk, lay his egg, and the assasins will be become loyal to him...something simple like that. Anyway, great animation and writing in this episode. The visuals for the funeral were elegant. I also like the wolf's pudgy totoro-esque tail.

Darker than Black 6! a better storyline than the first two. I guess every female character that Hei 'tries' to save will end up dead. In this episode *spoilers* we find out the Hei is a contractor who sorta/kinda has feelings. The preview made me think that this show was a parody of its genre, but outside of the preview, it isn't that funny.
Romeo x Juliet 5! Romeo feels guilty and/or pervy for almost touching Juliet's boob. In this episode the emancipated-looking-Clow-Read-look-alike doctor seems to be headings towards an end to his stint on the show. In the preview, Curio and Francisco appear to be imitating the love of Kurogane and Fay. who knew?

Seirei no Moribito 5! The shaman reveals a little more about the water fiend egg in Chagum. Balsa comes up with a plan to flee. The show is developing slowly, but nicely.

Death Note 30! huh, 30 already. Mello is not dead and gives Near a clue. It's nice to see that everyone knows Light is Kira, but they don't quite have the brains to catch him red-handed...y'know, like planting a bug on him.

Bleach 125! hm...Aizen wants to go after the King? Is that a filler storyline? Thought save-Orihime was next. Might be skipping through the next few episodes til Nell shows up.

...sufficiently anime-ed out now...
The old women come out to play....

Darker than Black 4! Although this is a well-made show, there isn't really anything unique about it. Plus, the main characters haven't quite proven themselves to be all that great yet. In this episode, we learn that moratoriums are contractors who cannot control their powers. And we get some crispy people and sliced up people...flashes of Heroes.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Seirei no Moribito 4! The fantasy elements come out in this episode as we get to see a water spirit...or demon. This is a slow-moving story but it's been pretty interesting. The old female shaman looks amusing.

ETA: apparently if nyc explodes, everyone starts speaking bad comic book dialogue...and perfects their glare. that is why they have to go back in time and save nyc.

Seirei no Moribito 3! totally changed my mind about this show due to nicely orchestrated action and a cute little flashback involving the prince. This series is based on a series of novels so I'm hoping that the plot develops as richly as other novel-based anime. Plus, all the summaries describing the show say that the prince will lay some eggs and I sooo want to see that. In this episode Balsa fights the soldiers who were hired to take the prince back (i think i called them assassins before..my bad). She gets injured and we meet Tanda.
y'know, the local news should cover major construction BEFORE it starts...not when it starts.

Anyway, quickie anime recaps from this week...since these episodes were lacking:

Naruto Shippuden 10! essentially nothing happens.

Darker than Black 3! ah~ Heroes starts this upcoming week. This episode reminded me and every other geek of that end-of-the-world scene in Heroes. I forget what happened after that..something with a school girl. No worries though, it's only part one of the story arc.

Nodame Cantabile 13! Great episode which featured a little bit of everyone's graduation piece. Masumi's piece was interesting. I'm not too familiar with Andre Jolivet. Chiaki played the Lizst which was played in the drama by a random person in the competition Nodame was in. The episode also covered the conveyor-belt sushi part, the creation of the RS-ok, and the night-out with the S-ok. A drunk Chiaki waltzing with a drunk Nodame was so cute.

Seirei no Moribito 2! I still optimistic that an anime with this type of quality will become more interesting sooon...I hope. Balsa/Xena and Chagum make some preparations for the run, assasins are sent, there's a nice rice paddy field...

Bleach 122! Pretty good episode. Everyone gets to say how much they suck...in comparison to Aizen's gang.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Seirei no Moribito 1! I guess this aired early as a special preview? I'm not too impressed with this show and the only reason I watched was to listen to L'Arc~en~Ciel's new song, Shine...which is almost the only good thing the show has going for it.

+ great animation by PIG.
- but they are known for inconsistent quality in this genre of anime.
- dull story
- uninteresting character design
- uninteresting seiyuu performance

Quick impression~ A woman (I'll call her Xena the warrior princess) is traveling along a bridge when a convoy's cow gets spooked and throws a little boy (someone else fell, but who cares) into the river. Xena saves him. The little boy has a glowy, magical egg or something inside of him that protect them in the water. Later, The boy's mother (they are members of royalty in a feudal asia-type setting) wants to hire Xena to protect her son. Xena rejects the payment of gaudy jewels, takes the boy and torches the place. I didn't quite catch all of the why's. This is already licensed by Geneon USA, but I don't really see the attraction. It has lovely backdrops and Laruku's song is ok, but I don't foresee anything very special with the story. Plus, the characters are far from likable; manly, big-chested woman and a weak boy?...uh, pass.

Hayate the Combat Butler 1! only watched because the title is fun. Very quick review~ Poor boy meets rich girl. He tries to protect her. Lame animation, lame comedy, lame all around.

Naruto Shippuden 6-7! the hour long special dragged as they interspersed a-day-in-the-life-of Naruto with Gaara being kidnapped. No excitement whatsoever.

ETA: sis pointed out the Lena Park was singing Josh Groban's song on the Romeo x Juliet homepage. I fail at being a Groban fan for not recognizing it earlier.
