Finishing up summer...
Oct. 18th, 2007 06:42 pmSeirei no Moribito 22-26! the end! Aw, Tanda gets rejected in episode 22 while he, Balsa & Chagum comfortably ride out the winter.
As spring gets closer, Chagum hears the pull of the egg. Again, the richness of the color palette and detail of the landscape are amazing in this series. Anyway, Shuga and his slowpoke scholars try to find the weakness of the monster who will eat Chagum and how to get the egg laid safely.

Episode 23 is excellent as Balsa and everyone plus Shuga and a good size army meet at the 'place of celebration' which doesn't turn out to be that place at all. Tanda proves that intellect triumphs over muscle in episode 24 as he figures out how to fight the La Lunga. Go Tanda! The actual fight and birth were somewhat anti-climactic, but sweet all the same.
In episode 26, the soldiers who did absolutely nothing celebrate with some happy alcohol. Shuga gets reprimanded for trying to kill off Balsa..what an arse. Balsa and the others return Chagum to the palace. It's as if nothing happened with the king. Sure he didn't order his son to be assasinated. This show is like Juuni Kokki without the hot guys and drama. It's an interesting world with unique rules and Balsa's story was satisfyiing, but in the same place, the kingdom hasn't changed, and the characters seem unlikely to try to change it. On the other hand, since this is based on a series of novels, maybe the story goes further outside the anime.

~8.5/10 rating for high quality animation and gorgeous backgrounds and skys. I know it got licensed pretty early on by Geneon , but since they went downhill, I guess it might not reach the USA legal market. The story is slowly paced and there is only 1.5 decent action scenes. I'd recommend watching if you love straightforward fantasy stories.

Side note: Laruku's Shine (the opening song) isn't on their new album, Kiss? Business and marketing are such mean things. well, I guess it's only a mediocre song at best...
That's the last of the summer anime I had been watching. Seirei no Moribito was the most satisfying. Darker than Black was second. They both will probably never become popular, since they lacked true fanservice and the action level was incredibly less than what you'd expect from those kind of shows. Summer really belonged to the fanservice-filled dramas. Coffee Prince was No. 1 in that regard.
Speaking of fanservice, yes, Naruto Shippuden's new opening features skin and snake love. *squee*
