Kobato. 5! Kobato tries to proposition a middle-aged man in the park. The whole talk of 'forgetting how to glow' was somewhat unintentionally funny. The whole story about 'yakuza' trying to get money from a kindergarten is pretty ridiculous. Fujimoto's background music is also very laughable. So overall, silly episode. We get to see the baumkuchen bear next...awesome.

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 12-13! Actually, I didn't notice that I hadn't watched these episodes until now. Schrodinger's cat in the form of Danboards---neat-o. The last episode was not highly impressive, but just ok. I enjoyed the tulip-drawing song this season. ~7/10 rating~ for the consistent animation and intellectual wtfs.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood 25! don't remember what happened...ah yes, Ed, Lin and Envy are mucking about in Gluttony's bowels of nowhereness.

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 11! how one perceives someone with tinted glasses, being unable to leave one's house, trolling. Koyappi and Ueda Yuji sing the drawing song...cute.

Prop Plus Petit mentioned again at C-Net...I hope they make some.

A bee.

The Kimi ni Todoke trailer looks very nice. Yay, PI.G. has their quality people working on this.

Tegami Bachi/Letter Bee looks intriguing (a sci-fi postal worker? how cool is that?) and Suga Shikao is doing the opening theme (a plus). The OVA was released earlier.

Bakemonogatari 11! After episode 12, it'll be online-only episodes? alrighty. Araragi recalls the 'black cat' personality of his classmate and tries to help her with her current problem. Are stupidly nice guys really that attractive to underaged girls?

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 10! chicken or egg, spies, range...and a new ending sung by Hiroshi Kamiya. Amusing song.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood 24! They get eaten. Oh noes.

Spice and Wolf S2 11! Horo again wants to split before they get too comfy in their happiness. Their way of addressing smut is so amusing.
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood 22! Winry vs. Scar, Ling vs. Wrath. As always, great episode.

Bakemonogatari 9! A snake story. I think this is more like xxxHolic than I initially thought. Araragi is the nice guy who is indebted to Oshino and thus, does Oshino's bidding. He encounters people who need help with the supernatural; the japanese-based spirits and monsters. I think the allusions to smut, fanservice, and the lovely animation make this more palptable to the general anime-watching public than xxxHolic which suffered from a lackluster production and lack of skin.

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei9! Emergency actions (this clip was funny), questions where the right answers are not correct, measuring someone's range...

Nodame Cantabile Paris-hen OAD! ..the anime extra that was bundled with Volume 22 of the manga. This extra focuses on Matsuda Yukihisa's time in Paris. He is the current S-Ok's guest conductor and also has his own orchestra in Paris. It's a fun episode as his girl troubles prompt him to drag Chiaki out for some drinking.

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi 2009 23/13! Kyon finally breaks and yells at Haruhi. Y'know? The anime series seems to be going at a slower pace than one would expect from a novel series with a whole lot more going on.

Spice and Wolf S2 9! a build up to the cross-dressing trader wanting Horo. What's with the seemingly random traders wanting Horo this season? Maybe the increase in moe-level attracts them.

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 8! covers reverse surprises, confession training (including cameos from conan, yamagi light, darth vadar, etc), asking questions seeking specific answers, and mystery trains. The last part was another one of the animator's experiments.
Photobucket

Bakemonogatari 8! Ah ha, new opening for the end of this arc. *spoilers* Getting swung around by one's intestines is a new visual that I haven't seen in anime. Got to hand it to the animators for making the fight more stylish than graphic. I am enjoying the twisted sense of humor; sooo twisted. We see a little bit of Shinobu's role in this episode.

Photobucket

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 7! The intros seem to be time wasters, but this episode was pretty good in a normal way. They address deals that aren't real, converse with General Frost and deal with surprises. The omake seiyuu drawings at the end are cute.

Spice and Wolf S2 7! Lawrence and Horo are traveling to the next town to do some fur trading. It's the calm-before-the-storm episode as they banter, flirt and tease. The fox stole that Horo wears is pretty amusing. There were some lovely scenery shots in this episode.

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 6! is about activities that one should do while young otherwise, they become all-consuming when you try them as an adult; starting from getting measles to playing video games. The episode also covers the fact that a group of things is less intrusive/prickly than one of that thing. The last topics are that people ignore certain happenings to get through life and 'made by' labels.
Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 4-5! Though this series has innovative animation and cultural commentaries, I am enjoying Bakamonogatari a little more for its more traditional story progression. In episode 4, they discuss TPOs (time police occasions), overprotection, and well, I missed whatever they were talking about in the middle of the episode. I did enjoy the fact that they called OAD's failed anime series. Ha. Sensei's body double shows up again. I wonder what overall purpose he might serve. Episode 5 redefines back-stratching, leap-people and another topic I dozed off at. After all this time, I'm going to say that 40% of each episode is turning out to be more nonsense than actual content.
Photobucket

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 3! The new opening visuals are great. This episode covers switches, third choices and Sensei's shadow & overprotectiveness.

Spice and Wolf S2 3! Thought I forgot an episode there. Lawrence didn't know Horo could read? Their relationship is in trouble when she finds out what he was hiding from her, and she suddenly wants a baby with the 12-year-old-looking kid?

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi 2009 7/17! Take 6...two more to go to complete the Endless Eight title?...well, hopefully one more. This show is either brilliant or plain annoying.
Tegomass is probably my favorite JE group. Their first album just came out. Both guys are as cute as a shiny, pink button, and actually have nice singing voices. BUT many of their songs choices are kinda lame. I can accept the overly cute songs & angsty ballads, but the typical JE pop sometimes 70's disco songs are irritating. 'Power Bus' is almost like a Jonas Bros rock song...well, they aren't really singing 'Power Bus' (Power of Earth), but it is preferable over the JE-pop tracks. The album is generally pleasant. ~7/10 rating~ I enjoy the anime songs that are on the album and a few others. Tanabata Matsuri is the single released last week. I am jealous of the perm-boy's ability to look so feminine.

Photobucket

Spice and Wolf S2 2! Definitely liking this season better than the first. Lawrence talks to a couple interesting characters about Yoitsu, a town near Horo's home, which he finds was destroy by a bear. The Church's strict rule over the society is once again brought up. Actually, the prior season's issue was Church vs. pagan gods, and this episode brought up Church vs. alchemy.

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 2! Detective Conan makes a shadowy appearance. I enjoyed the time lag bit.
Took a quick trip to NYC to see the VAMPS. I'm glad to see that the all-American act of grown men having a fist-fight in front of a club has not died. The show was great (awesome view, awesome, energetic music & performance), but I don't think I'll hunt down another one of Hyde's club performances again due to the overall garbled and static-y sound in small clubs. Plus, his VAMPS music while club-worthy, isn't too great. Maybe I'll see to a stadium venue in JP for his band's anniversary.

Also saw the Lion King which I never got around to seeing. Worth every penny. A tad weirded-out by the flamboyant hyena dance.

I should remember to post more often to prevent backlog.

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 1! The goodbye on the last OAD didn't really mean goodbye. Another season starts! There's not too much to comment on this episode. It is similar to the prior ones. The animation is great. The ending is lovely. The social commentary is amusing. But I wonder if the same type of episode over and over will be able to sustain itself when the characters never change. This episode covers bad luck, the meaning of spring, and journeys to find oneself.

Photobucket
Spice and Wolf S2 1! Another pretty opening for this series; the visuals are actually better than the first. Lawrence and Horo continue to travel and have amusing conversations. I'm glad to see the flashback Lawrence has about Horo's hometown. Maaaybe they'll progress the main plot this season. Horo seems cuter this season. Maybe more moe?

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi 2009 5/15! Groundhog's Day Take 4! Tha animation quality...blech. Glad to see that the writers are amusing themselves.

Tried to watch more Umineko, but it just isn't working for me.

Goku Zetsubou Sensei OAD 3! The last one starts off with the hundred tales story with a twist. I didn't really follow all the in-jokes in this part. Yon-sama is injected. The episode moves on to battles in which both sides end up losers, and then finally, we get the how and why Sensei is negative. Absurd, yes. It had awesome art, animation and educational lessons til the end. Good way to end the anime version of the series. Hiroshi Kamiya did a little sign off at the end...so it must be the end. ~9/10 rating~ for an intelligent and uniquely animated series.

I saw that the first Volume of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei has been domestically released. How's the translation?
Photobucket
Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 2! the last straight to DVD episode..or not.(edit: there's one more in Feb). This is about how the Japanese prefers the process of things rather than the result or ending; like how they prefer growing girls to mature women. Gotta love how truthful and funny this show is. Despite the majority of jokes and references going right over my head, I still enjoy watching for the jokes that I do get and for the excellent and unique animation.

Photobucket
Hakushaku to Yousei 11! Highlights include Edgar trying to guess the name he called out while trying to accost Lydia, Kelpie crushing the wolf's head with his bare hand, and Raven commenting on Nico's fluffy tail. This would be a really good show if things didn't feel so random.
Glad I mailed in my vote now.

Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 1! is the first out of two OADs. There's really no chronological story to this series, so one could jump into any of the episodes and just enjoy the mess. This episode starts with Valentine's Day where the characters try to figure out how to seduce 'the elite' (ie. otaku). The second half of the episode moves onto Halloween where everyone dresses up as anime characters rather than traditional Halloween ghouls much to sensei's dismay. There's a ton of anime nods again including Suzumiya Haruhi, Lucky Star, Code Geass and more. Anyway, the criticism/mockery/silliness reminds me of a Japanese version of The Simpsons without the family as focal point. I wonder how the mangaka intends to end the manga.

Photobucket
Switch 1! is the first of two OADs, too. Not sure why I decided to watch this. I never even read the manga, but hey, it's a police drama; 'stylish crime drama' is what kept popping up on news sites. Kai and Hal are partners in the narcotics division in the police force. It already sounds like a set-up for yaoi, and with Kai's uke-like personality, that's what it seems like. Both guys are undercover at a certain organizations suspected of trafficking drugs. Though the animation was nice-looking, the episode was boring. Most of the time, the characters said cryptic things, and some sparse action took place in the shadows. Hopefully, the manga fans liked it, cause by itself, it was rather bland eye-candy.
Hey, was Sasuke and Itachi's fight really only 2..ok 10 pages? Hope there is more to that.

Mononoke 1-12! mentioned and recced by many people, I finally finished this up. Not sure if the medicine seller is as hot as all the fangirls like to say, but he is one interesting oddball. It's a beautifully-styled series with awesome set designs and animation. This was a spin-off of the horror anime, Ayakashi, which I never got into because of the ear-grating wailing woman. As with Mushishi and the following show, this did lag during some of the storytelling. Basically, the medicine seller purifies mononoke, but only after the mononoke scares the truth out of their victims. ~7/10 rating~ Not quite as horryifying as the show tries to convey, but beautiful nonetheless. The op/ed songs were horrifying.

Photobucket

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 7-12! happily finished this one, too. In episode 7, Sensei and girls delve into the land of doujinshi, more crossovers and Mikoshi. Not quite as funny as the previous episodes, but entertaining. Even more crossovers as Loveless gets a nod in episode 8. Ushi Kagerou's story is amusing. Episode 9 is about one's mistakes. 11 was unexpected, but not as unexpected as 12 as the writers disregarded episode 11's cliffhanger. Episode 12 introduces us to two other problematic students. ~7/10 rating~ The dry humor is well-made.

Decided my goal in life would be to color in official b/w drawings. It's what all the cool kids are doing. I take donations and commissions...I will even use crayons.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 6! is about living within one's net worth and cleansing toxins out of oneself; very pro-healthy-living topics. Of course, the episode is insane. ♥
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 4! is about the victim of domestic violence student and the email abuser student. Billy Blanks Boot Camp gets a nod. Hard to comment on a show that does everything right. Anyway, sarcastic, dry humor is ♥.

It's already August...*despair*
Velvet UnderWorld is Koyasu Takehito's new anime. Admittedly, I read Velvet Underwear the half dozen times it came up on my f-list. Anyway, it looks similar to Weiss Kreus, but with more characters and better animation. A PV is out. He sings the song, Alternative. My favorite Koyasu Takehito song is 'Mary and a Kitten', but I have no idea where my mp3 went...darn.

Code Geass 24-25! Hey, the end of season uno. Episode 24-25 confirms my lukewarm interest in the fighting aspect of mech war genres. There were some entertaining parts like Jeremiah flying a huge orange-shaped mech, and the end was a good cliffhanger, but the actual fights and story twists weren't as impressive as they could have been. Season one gets a 7/10 rating.

Naruto Shippuden 21! I liked Chiyo and Sakura's reaction when they saw Sasori for the first time. I'm sure they were reacting to his eviable use of makeup.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 3! is about the foreign student with a split personality and an illegal immigrant. Not sure what to say about the episode other than it addresses all sorts of social and political issues in a truly amusing way. Excellent show with moments of creepiness. I'm enjoying afk's attempt to translate everything...plain awesome.

LoveCom 16! Hey Say 7's PV is a smidge adorable like the Mickey Mouse Club...does the MMC still exist? In this episode, the animators spent too much money on drugs and alcohol and can't afford to draw the character's faces correctly. Maity-sensei gives Ootani and Koizumi a little push.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 2! really made me laugh. There's some brilliant and crackpot writing in this show. ♥ Love sensei's Death Note, the Orange-kun drawing and Hachikuro references! Entertaining solutions to hikikomori and stalking.
Emma S2 10-12! Finished this show up. Episode 10 was soooo sweet. William enacted a balcony scene a la Romeo with everyone watching. Even though I thought he was a dunce in the first season, he proves to be such a charming gentleman from time to time. These last few episodes stray from the manga, but you get a little more Hans and Hakim time. Episode 11 focuses on William dealing with the consequences of turning down the Campbell family. Even though we don't get the climactic kidnapping scenes, we still get the BEST HUG EVER with Hakim helping out his bestest pal.
BUT the actual end was gawd awful. )

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 1! was a visual treat. You could screencap every second and it would be a artistic scene. Due to the same director and series composition person that worked on Negima?! the show presents itself in a similarly unique manner with interesting angles, textures, crops, etc and high quality bgm & animation. As for the story, I browsed the manga back here and it basically follows the same plot of a suicidal, pessimistic teacher and his students. My sympathies to the fansubber/translator who wants to work on this for it has a hellavalot of on-screen text and word puns. I do hope someone fansubs this 'cause I surely didn't understand everything. Although this doesn't seem to be laugh aloud funny, it has that dry humor that I like. That being said, the opening song is weird, the censored parts are weird and the ending song is the typical female seiyuu song. Forgot to mention the seiyuu who does the sensei was also Takemoto in Hachikuro. ♥
