Bartender
1! jdrama. Sasakura Ryu is introduced as someone who quit being a bartender after his sensei(?) tells him he doesn't know what it means to be a bartender...or something like that. A young woman hunts him down to make a drink for her hard-to-please grandfather. I think this is more loosely based on the manga than the anime was. It seems to be building up more drama with an angsty past and rivalry. Arashi's Aiba Masaki plays the main character, but I think he has only two facial expressions; blank and even blanker...which doesn't appeal to me.

And some anime blips.

Kimi ni Todoke S2 6! gotta love complete misunderstandings.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica 7! My fascination with the background sets has waned. The only thing left are the prepubescent magical girls who feel like the world is against them, whine whine. Dropped.

Tegami Bachi: REVERSE 20! Lag needs Connor's dog, Gus, to sniff out the Cabernet gaichuu out from the underground.

Forgot today was peeing and barfing on the streets St. Paddy's Day.

I think I may be one of two people who watched this all the way through.
Bartender 10-11! the end.
Episode 10 features a jaded, arrogant academic while episode 11 tried to cram as much optimistic, unreal bartendering babble into a 20 minute time span as it could. ~6/10 rating~ for this series. Unique, but dull series. I suppose a magical dog sidekick could have helped.

Nodame Cantabile 2! Yay..warming up to the seiyuu. Mine's voice sounded a bit strange at first, but he grew on me by the end of the episode. Nodame's gyabo's are really cute. In the episode, the differences in the Beethoven violin piece played by Mine at each instance seemed more clear than it did in the drama. Quite enjoyable.

Bartender 6-9! never got around to posting these.

Death Note 10! Thought that they'd play the tennis match up a little, but it was sadly tame and the animation was again mediocre. Light joins the investigation in the episode because L couldn't get enough of Light.

Bartender 5! bit boring this episode was.
Drinky-worthy situation: being a loser at work
Recipe 1: Frozen daiquiri [40ml white rum, 15 ml lime juice, 1 tsp white curacao, sugar, blended with ice]
Recipe 2: Hemingway daiquiri [110 ml white rum, 6 drops maraschino, grapefruit juice (1/2 grapefruit worth), lime juice(2 limes worth)]

Hm~ Goong S -Prince House- ('S' for Spin-off, Special and/or Secret) will start in January. This time it'll feature a common boy, Se7en, who will become a prince. His first acting gig. The other male co-star is also a pop singer. oh boy~

ETA: had to stick this in...
Bartender 4! implies that if you feed a plant beer instead of water, it'll grow better.
Recipe 1~ Cinderella [lemon juice + orange juice + pineapple juice shaken with ice]
Drink-worthy situation~ A first date at a bar or meeting a workholic husband.
Interesting facts~ Luini (one of da Vinci's students)'s subjects created the drink, Amaretto, for him.
Recipe 2~ Bijou Cocktail/Amber Dream [20ml Dry Gin, 20 ml Sweet Vermouth, 20ml Chartreuse, dash of Orange Bitters]
Although this was a boring episode, they did throw alot of tidbits of bar information out. wonders if there is actually a plot to this show.
Bartender 3! I'll keep at this til I get bored. Ryuu was looking particularly stoned in this episode.

Drink-worthy situation~ Finding out a former girlfriend is dead. Never going to her performance of Ibsen's A Dollhouse.
Facts~ German's have 'hot beer' which is beer at room temperature.
The margarita was created in a cocktail contest in 1949 by John Durlesser whose Mexican girlfriend died in a hunting accident. (Curiously, wiki doesn't list this story as a popular story of origin)
Recipe~ Margarita [40ml Tequila, 5ml Cointreau, 15 ml lime juice, salt to taste]
Being one who doesn't drink much, I still find Bartender fun to watch.

Bartender 2! This is definitely a show that doesn't have much action or drama. It's more of an educational show with a sappy story of the day. The female from the first episode asks Ryuu, the bartender, to figure out the menu of the heart...or something like that; actually the drink her father wanted to give his estranged father. This part of the episode is the sappy and slightly boring part. The educational part includes the following info:
The No.1 cocktail chosen by men is the Gin-Tonic (I'm fond of that, too)
The No.1 cocktail chosen by women is the Spumoni.
Bars have no menu.
Torii Shinjirou tried to create a whiskey for the Japanese people.
The show even goes through some of the ways whiskey is served.
The episode gives you the recipe for a Nikolaschka which includes brandy, sugar and a lemon slice. The ending visuals shows the live-action bartender making this drink.

Once again anime is able to present food/drink in an educational, but unique manner. There were other little tidbits of fun info and the bartender is still darn cute..so I'll keep amusing myself with this anime. I guess comedy or action would have been inappropriate with the topic of alcohol...darn.

Negima? 4! With each episode I watch, a few brain cells die...and there's no alcohol involved. In this episode two creatures from the magical realm come to inform Negi and the others that the Star Crystal of a-whole-lotta-power was stolen. Negi investigates. A contract with Nodoka is made. Negi is such a playa. This storyline is told like an RPG; visual fun for all. There's a new ending and a new ending short about the Chupacapura. *cute*

For Ayakashi Ayashi and Bakumatsu episodes 3, I won't be reviewing since these were just plot builders. Both the shows are still decent, but slow. I'll mention them again when they start moving.

Bartender 1! This is like the flip-side to Yakitate-Japan. (revised review)

+ Appearance-wise, there is nothing spectacular, but it's nice.
- Storywise, it's not funny nor dramatic...nor is there a big overall plot.
+ Pleasant male-female duet opening. Nice slow tune at the end with live-action shots of a bartender making a pretty drink.

Quick impression~ There is a bar, Eden Hall, where a bartender resides and is able to remember drinks he made for customers he had a long time ago. Each episode seems like it'll have a customer with a problem. They solve it with alcohol. hehe, yes, that sounds bad...but hey, they are legal adults there. The bartender looks like a grown-up Azuma Kazuma. 'God's glass' is said a few times...I hope they are joking. I may watch a few episodes of this since it is refreshingly plain. Episode 1 was about a man who had a crappy professional life and hates bars. He gets water-ed down whiskey. woot.

Hwangjiny 1! has made it's way over on youtube. It's quite beautiful with the traditional Korean setting and clothing, but like Goong, the initial awe may fade if the characters' personalities don't hold. I'm hoping that the premise lives up to the hype. This is about a famous gisaeng (like a geisha but more of a dancer/musician/entertainer), Hwang Jin-y during the Joseon period. I'm guessing she attracts alot of men, but there is probably one true looooove. The show features alot of historic day-in-the-life-of scenes which are interesting. The story starts out when Hwang jiny is a little cute girl who sees a group of gisaeng performing.
