There were two fairytale-based tv dramas that started this week. Once Upon A Time is based on Snow White. Snow White and the Prince are cursed by the witch, and their daughter who is transported to our time is the only one who can save them. Her young son whom she gave up for adoption finds her, and brings her to the town where everyone is a fairytale character, but doesn't realize it. The witch is the Mayor and the boy's adopted mother. It is as bad as it sounds for the most part. I think it wants to be Twilight, but is very bad at it...if that is even possible.

The 2nd show is Grimm where Grimms are a line of supernatural hunters; think Buffy x Superman...cause Nick, the main character, looks like Clark Kent and his grandmother, funny enough, looks like Lex Luther. I guess one of the writers or creators also worked on Buffy, so some of the humor and production has that familiar geeky humor. The first episode is based on the Red Riding Hood story. If it retains that self-awareness and humor, it could be a fun show to watch.

There are apparently two new Snow White movies coming out, too. One with Kristen Stewart and another with Julia Roberts....what's with the Snow White revival?

I haven't been around to watch tv much, but I did find Jeopardy's IBM Challenge online. And it was interesting. I wonder how it would have done if it had access to the internet...hehe, I guess using Google to find the answer would invalidate IBM's research.

Refrained from d/ling the new Doctor Who episode last week to watch a few minutes ago. Good stuff...pretty redhead might get the increase the fanboy base, but miss the 10th already, even though he was understandably getting stale. The 11th Doctor looks like a young Frankenstein.

Guilty pleasure: ABDC's charity show was awesome.

Durarara 14! Celty finds out that Shinra's father was the one who separated her from her head.

Us remakes of 'Being Human' and 'Torchwood'??? aaaargh.
It's interesting that NYT has a small article pointing out that "Fox’s “American Idol” beat NBC’s coverage of the Olympics." They should point out that from 8pm-10pm EST, NBC irritatingly does not broadcast the sports that most people would want to see. The highlight of women's figure skating didn't air until 11:30pm, the time when all the young impressionable girls are already asleep (ok, they could be Tivo-ing it). While it's nice that they are giving coverage to all the sports...some of them are just so dull. Anyway, yay for pretty skating last night. Btw, there is a cute Kpop artist-wannabe on AI...who needs an eyebrow wax job.
Was hiding out most of the weekend...*sigh*

Community covered a humorous version of Somewhere Out There last week.

Darker Than Black - Ryuusei no Gemini 7! oh noes, a pervy lady tries to sell July. A pervy man kidnaps the kids....and tapes Maou to the window...hahaa. I enjoy small touches of humor mixed in with serious drama.

Letter Bee 8! Lag is wondering why Gauche is no longer a postman and meets Sylvette. Niche has some adorable scenes here. Random note: whenever they say, 'Akatsuki,' I am reminded of the show below.

Naruto Shippuden 135-136! As expected, the animation was stylistically interesting for the fight between Sasuke and Itachi, but there were definitely moments of cheap-arse animation. I like how most of the characters are associated with an animal; snake and crow here. After reading the manga and watching this part of the anime, Itachi's motives are a bit skewed for the sake of the brotherly drama, and consequently, Sasuke's actions after this battle seem even more convoluted. Logical thinking doesn't really play a part when boys just want to fight and battle.

Kuroshitsuji OVA! the cast of the series perform Hamlet for children on behalf of the Phantomhive company; Hamlet for children? Well, there was a 'seaweed' character. The episode was pretty horrible. The one or two cute scenes probably weren't worth wasting 26 minutes of one's time.

Winter Sonata 3! misunderstandings...zzzz....

Hey, Yen Press has somewhat found a fan-friendly solution to the 'localized'/fugly novel cover dilemma. Letting the online retailers offer free jp covers...if the retailer wants to offer it.

Been watching some of BBC's Merlin, and then look into it to see if it is worth continuing and find A. It'll premiere on NBC Sunday with the first 2 episodes and B. Hey, surprise, surprise, the fangirls like Merlin x Arthur or is it Arthur x Merlin...I suppose it doesn't matter either way. :)

Speeding along Doctor Who, too. Very entertaining. (boo hiss at the prices of BBC's dvds.) Torchwood, too, too...lovely.
Didn't watch any tv shows over the summer. I decided to try a few this fall...

heading my way.

Watch the Music Station audience get crazy (or as crazy as a japanese audience gets) as the RHCPs perform.

Tamaki's character song, "Guilty Beauty Love," is great-o...the best song ever written..only surpassed by Mori's character song, "Itsumo gawa ni." Honey's is predictably barf-inducing. Actually, they aren't too horrendous as character songs. The "Guilty Beauty Love" part of the chorus is the only really bad part. They need PVs for these.

2nd attempt

As a follow-up to this post, Yamapi appears again on Music Station with Daite Senorita proving that he can sing...i think...and again with a surprise ending (hint: Nobuta wo Produce co-star...very cute!)
Don't forget Miyazaki Thursdays on TCM.
