The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya 2009 1/8! starts an episode where Mikuru takes Kyon back in time 3 years to help younger Haruhi with a Tanabata project. Yuki also helps with the time travel. This series grew on me when the sci-fi elements of the story grew. Kyon is still an awesome narrator. Lack of dancing = fail...how are the fans supposed to express their devotion now? Although I thought the fandom hype was overkill, it is a good series. I hope this is the start of a new season rather than some publicity one-off.

ETA: I guess they are airing this the original season chronologically and this is the 8th episode. They say there are 4 old episodes after this before new story arrives.

Poor Kyon. OMG.

I do think it's a new show...I remember wasting time in a bookstore in Matsuyama reading all about it in Newtype, and mostly hoping the character designs looked better on screen than they did on the page. Are the voice actors the same, do you know?
