Ode to Joon-ki's non-surgically enhanced eyes.

...nevermind.
Gorged myself on Lee Joon-ki this week. After The King and the Clown, I finished off My Girl and Flying Boys...and then proceded to find all his music videos. Here're some reviews~

My Girl is great at pulling an audience in as it introduces some cute, fun characters and quirky scenarios. Joo Yoo-Rin starts off a spunky, clever female lead and Seo Jung-woo, Joon-ki's character, is also a great character to watch (I'd agree with the actress's comment at the end...I'd pick him over the other guy any day). The grandfather, secretary, and aunt & caretaker are also pretty cute. The main male is disappointingly interchangeable with any main male character in a korean love comedy.

*spoilers ahead* As I mentioned before, the show is entirely predictable, BUT there is an awareness factor in the writing that has some of the characters(Yoo-Rin's friends) that make light of the show's predictability; as if they are the audience. (sorta like how Ouran acknowledges the moe). The plot~ poor girl meets rich boy. They irritate each other. Rich boy needs poor girl due to some family secret. Poor girl needs money due to family debt. There is a family mystery involved. Rich boy and poor girl fall in love. Snobby girl, the family mystery and THE NICEST GUY ALIVE complicate things. Rich boy and poor girl separate in tears. Two years later...and rich boy needs GLASSES! muwha hahahahaaaa. That's the best indication of a time-jump ever! and trading in the SUV for a sportscar. Man, he's middle-aged now. They meet again. All is eventually resolved. It was entertaining throughout the series, but I did cringe near the end when the love-drama cliches came to the forefront of the show and Yoo-Rin's character lost alot of her initial appeal. Joon-ki's character was not only attractive, nice and persistant, he also almost played a convincing straight man. He also had the BEST teary-eyed, angst-filled face. It was quite a relief when the writers didn't try to pair him up with the snobby girl.

Flying Boys is a coming-of-age movie. A trio of friends have finished school and have to decide what to do with their lives; college, work, etc. One boy absurdly accidentally kills a man and the witness manipulates the boys into her ballet class. Although the movie does not stand out much (the main character falls in love for the first time and decides on a future), it's worth watching if you want to see Joon-ki (as the main character's friend) & ballet *squee tights* together. I wasn't sure if this was supposed to be a comedy or real-life situational movie, but it had it's moments of guffaw.

Clazziquai's Sweety MV features Joon-ki in an adorable role. It's a cute song and plucky performance.

After watching clips from the impressive fan-meeting (a completely odd asian concept to this person raised in the usa), he seems like a really nice guy. He isn't the best singer or dancer ever, but he is very good and it's entertaining. Not only can he act in made-for-him parts, he can sing, dance, sword-fight and in his new movie, box.

As for his music, Foolish love is a repetitive dance song in which he shows his ability to lip-synch and dance. One Word and Don't know love are nice typical Kpop love songs. He has an average voice and neither the song nor lyrics are unique in anyway, but they are easy to like. It's an interesting thing that an actor gives back to the fans in this sort of format.

I think I've had my fill now. Joon-ki doesn't have many works out and I'm not that interesting in his pre-lipstick, bit-part phase, so I'll wait for his new movie, Fly Daddy Fly, before I squee anymore. If you haven't had much exposure to him, I would not start watching his early works first, since he hardly stands out and actually looks like a normal, bland Korean pretty-boy. I'd start with The King and the Clown movie since it's a great movie and he is successful in portraying an interesting character.

I lied..I would like to find 'The Hotel Venus', a japanese film in which he has a small part.
