Ah~ the fall season, when girls go back to school and dream of having an anime boyfriend. Decided to watch more new shows than I was originally interested in. The following posts are in order of entertainment value.

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun 1! The funny shoujo story this season.

+ Excellent production
+ I have no idea who the seiyuu are, but the voice acting is pretty good.
- Standard shoujo humor

Quick impression~ Confession and kiss in the first episode...refreshingly quick progress for a high school shoujo story. A cold-hearted, school-oriented girl attracts the attention of the school bully who is actually a simple-minded (but secretly book-smart) boy who just has a hard time making friends (of course). While nothing surprisingly new about this show, I did enjoy the fist in the face scene.

Sukitte Ii na yo 1! Kiss and confession again in the first episode...modern shoujo characteristics?

+ Excellent production
- Standard shoujo scenarios

Quick impression~ The most popular boy in school becomes interested in the girl who has no friends. She hates him at first. It starts with the standard misunderstanding, and the 'boy saving the girl' scene; reminds me of Kimi ni Todoke or Hana Yori Dango. You can probably predict the whole show, but it had some cute moments and the attractiveness of the characters will undoubtedly attract popularity. This tries to be the more serious romantic anime this season in comparison to Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun.

Kamisama Hajimemashita 1! more tsundere...

+/- Mediocre production

Quick impression~ A young girl abandoned by her debt-ridden father finds herself living in a temple as the Earth deity by mistake. A fox deity, a servant of the previous deity, refuses to acknowledge her. ...Feels like a shoujo-esque version of Inuyasha.

Ah! the fall season when boys go back to school and dream of living in an RPG or being surrounded by girls. Throw in some bromance and yay, I'm there. (Part 1...the good)

Magi 1! Aladdin and Alibaba...?

+ Cute production
+ Feel-good kids show

Quick impression~ Aladdin is a naive little pervert who likes to fondle boobs, even man-boobs...who knew? He meets Alibaba who dreams of wealth. They form a friendship. Aladdin also has a djinn friend and it sounds like they wish to befriend other djinn who are stuck in dungeon towers...something like that. Gotta love the kids' shounen genre; humor and charm, as always.

Zetsuen no Tempest 1! Boys with magic and a funny princess

+ Decent production
+ Almost interesting

Quick impression~ A young, lethargic boy misses his bff and gets caught up in something when bff returns with magical powers. There's a mysterious disease turning people into metal spreading in the city, and a cult trying to bring something destructive to the city. For some reason Mashiro's girlfriend comment switched the BL potential on. Enough hints at a story were thrown out to make me interested in seeing this through.

Little Busters 1! a group of friends in high school

+ Nice characters
- Voice actors are too old for their characters
+ Funny

Quick impression~ The five characters have been friends since they were little. They would pretend to vanquish evil around the neighborhood; cute flashback. It's the last year of high school for the leader of the group and they try to hold on to their past while they can. In episode 1 Kyousuke wants them to form a baseball team. The characters are mischevious and funny. And the writers don't try to kill you with fanservice.

Code Breaker1! shounen genre please don't fail me..

+ Decent production
+/- Iffy episode

Quick impression~ The cool girl at school takes interest in the new transfer student whom she witnessed burning people alive. He works for someone and uses a power to burn people. I like how the episode ended with the boy burning the girl...we're not falling for that. Poor dog. Man, dogs are not faring well this season. Anyway, I get a Weiss Kreuz feeling from the group of characters...but the episode wasn't really that bad.

K 1! a show that will be hard to google.

+ Decent production
- but annoying style, blah bluish tint and blurry scenes
+ BL potential is high

Quick impression~ A young man and his gang have a reddish firey power. They fight against a uniformed group who have swords and a water-type power. Cut to a young white-haired young boy and his day at school....snooze for half of an episode. Then the gang comes after him, and then he is saved; and blushes so prettily. Despite the boring episode, it did pick up near the end. The attactive character design will keep many people interested.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 1! Joestar is an awesome name!

- Mediocre production
+/- Comic-book storytelling style
+ Intriguing 1980's vibe...

Quick impression~ A poor boy, Dio Brando, is invited to live with the Joestar family due to a debt. He strives to make Jonathan Joestar (Jojo)'s life miserable while being the perfect person in front of everyone else including Jojo's father; aw, poor dog. There's something entertaining about the dramatic way of the studio decided to animate this story which is probably a bad thing, since it seems like it wants to be a serious drama. Like Zetman, the characters are overzealous in their good and evil personalities. The story is exaggerated by the comic-book like text and stills. While not the smoothest production this season, it's one of the most interesting.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai 1! same character designers/production team as K'ON and Haruhi.

+ More amusing than expected

Quick impression~ A young boy starts high school with the intention of blending in. A young girl who thinks she is living in a fantasy world tries to draw him back into being a dork. While the geek humor works, I'm not impressed enough to continue to watch.

Photobucket

Shin Sekai Yori 1! Splat, splat!

+ Intriguing opening and beginning to the episode
- 2nd half of the episode falls flat
+ Lovely backgrounds
- Dull character designs with ugly school uniforms

Quick impression~ A young girl develops powers, has her powers suppressed and then enrolls in a school for kids who have powers. There's an undercurrent of a dark mystery and the adults are definitely hiding something from the students. Can't say I really care to see what happens to the young girl. Hope she gets eaten by the evil cat-like monster.

BTOOOM! 1! bu-TOOM...fannypacks! and boobs!

- Boring
- Terribly slow main character

Quick impression~ A young NEET who'd rather play BTOOOM than find a job finds himself stranded on an island a fannypack full of bombs and a gem embeded in his hand; it's real-life BTOOOM. The episode ends with a well-endowed young blond bathing in a stream. I guess they've got their audience now.
