Mech anime have fillers, too
May. 4th, 2008 08:28 amTotally babbling...

Code Geass R2 5! Suzaku goes back to school to see if Lelouch is Zero. Rolo's internal conflict on who to assassinate is pretty amusing. Gino and Anya go to the school's festival to experience a commoner's life. If this show were lacking any fanservice in the previous episodes, this one episode should clearly make up for that critical flaw. Someone needs to keep count of all the ass shots in this series. (yay for semi-Chobits Negima reference)

Macross F 5! Alto goes out on a date with Sheryl. Ranka roams the city with Michel after a fight with her brother. Cute filler episode. I guess Alto 'liking' Ranka would make him a pedo, so Alto x Sheryl is highlighted. (Just realized that Mikhail/Michel's seiyuu is Zetsubou Sensei's...^_^) And this episode again confirms that the insect-enemy attack because of Ranka's singing. For some reason the songs and clothing style make me think of the 80's. Wish Rice-A-Roni actually supported this pseudo-San Francisco setting..instead of the non-Rice-A-Roni brand.
Evangelion 1.01 jmovie! It's like watching the first few episodes with new glasses and a hearing aid. Everything is crisper, smoother and almost makes sense. Someone's side-by-side comparison gives you a better look at it. Admittedly, I like the fanservice that the Macross and Gundam franchise brings more than the Eva franchise. Shinji is still an angst-driven adolescent with a major inferiority complex caused by his father. Rei is still a bland doll that makes fanboys squee for no apparent reason. Anyway, the highlight of the movie is Utada Hikaru's awesome and haunting theme song, Beautiful World. Random notes: Interestingly, Doritoes supports NERV and Shinji listens to cassette tapes. Nipples are shown, but Kaworu is naked...without nipples. Also, it's a tad boring. They still spend more time with the technical babble and teen wank than with actual mech action. I supposed the standard Eva fan will love it.
