Here's a different remake direction; a Japanese remake of a Kdrama. Japan will remake You're Beautiful this July. It will be titled, Ikemen Desu ne, and star Miori Takimoto and Yuta Tamamori as the main characters. I have no idea who those two are. While I'm not against a remake, wouldn't this directly compete with the other cross-dressing female, 'ikemen' show..the new Hana Kimi - Ikeman Paradise remake?

Just upgraded to Windows 7. A few minor differences noted. An annoyance is that mkv video editing freezes the media players & PC, a known problem. Why isn't it fixed in any of the media players yet.

Anyway, I am amused that anime news sites report leaks. Katanagatari opening leak - nice opening, bland song.

Doctor Who: The End of Time Pt 2 was pretty darn good. I'm glad that Wilfred got a large part in this, and that the 10th Doctor got a sufficient goodbye. It was fun to see the writer keep teasing us with the 'four knocks' throughout these last few specials and especially throughout the last episode. I'm gonna miss Tennant. Hope the new guy is good. The CM for the new season...eh.

And boy-band, 2PM, does You're Beautiful..BL style.

You're Beautiful 15-16! the end. I'm not quite sure if it were the translations or just the writers really trying to create any sort of conflict to break the couple up before the end, but the misunderstandings between Tae-kyung and Mi-Nam/Nyeo were confusing. It's a good thing that the previous 14 episodes were full of fun, since those efforts easily overshadowed the weaknesses with the lovesick mother story. I'm surprised they didn't take advantage of the real Mi-Nam's return for more comedic opportunities..outside the humorous male-body double scene. The last two episodes didn't cause as much laughter, but when Shin-woo got shot down AGAIN, well, you had to chuckle. The end of the show was pretty corny, but that was expected. ~8/10 rating~ I'm glad we got to hear Tae-Kyung sing again. Lovely voice! I'm a fan! Also a big fan of the other eye-candy characters!

You're Beautiful 13-14! The BEST live-action boy-love-triangle fanfic scene ever! The writers know what fans want to see. Jeremy has some stand out scenes in episode 14 where 1. we find out that he likes reading those fanfics and 2. he resolves his feelings for Mi-Nam. Actually all three boys resolve their feelings fairly well in these 2 episodes. Sloppy and confusing events happen when Tae-kyung's mother finally creates conflict between the two main characters. It's like they needed a big climactic fight before the happily ever after, so they whipped something out that should make sense, but really doesn't. Anyway, putting aside the angst, there was an adorable 'fan-meeting' scene and a cooking scene. Only 2 episodes left. Again, the fanfic scene was the BEST.

You're Beautiful 11-12! I suppose the reason why I don't 100% fully support the two main characters 'getting' together is that there are many dumb misunderstandings between the two characters as per usual. Anyway, Jeremy, Shin-woo and Tae-kyung get to smooch Mi-nam in episode 11. Ok, Tae-kyung's kiss was the only 'real' kiss. *sweet*. The manager inadvertantly divulges all to Tae-kyung in episode 12. Tae-kyung's cliffhanger remark made to Mi-nam was quite funny. Let's see how she interprets his 'confession.' Shin-woo also sang the cutest song in middle of that episode (and was wearing cute skull earrings), but he got absolutely no headway with his crush. I hope there's another OST since he wasn't featured in the first OST at all. These two episodes (mostly 12) revealed some important plot points. I hope there's still more fun stuff ahead before they get deeper into the 'mother' storyline.

ETA: Buy the pig-rabbit or the Samsung Corby (not available in the US), both used for communication purposes in the show. The 2nd OST will be out next week.

Shin-woo's song (sung by Park Sang-woo) for [livejournal.com profile] bumpybear..hehe.

You're Beautiful 9-10! *spoilers and much squees* He-yi and Tae-kyung's mother continue to cause angst. Despite the setup being very typical of most kdramas, the comedy continues to crack me up. There's some great dialogue and just fun interaction written into the show. Continuing where they left off, like all depressed rock stars, Tae-kyung drowns his sorrows with bottled water. The episodes features the obligatory drama plushie merchandise, but the PLUSHIE SURGERY scene was awesome!!!! Why is Jeremy's bowl haircut lopsided? As far as the actual story, the writers are hinting that the main characters are related, but the online fans seem to favor the main characters as a romantic couple, and kdramas usually get rewritten as the show airs, so it'll be interesting too see how they spin the bottle. It could be an open-ended conclusion, too. One of the reasons I root for the nice-guy character is that he usually figures out stuff long before the dense main characters figure anything out, and they don't fall victim to the bad guy. Go Shin-woo! Have your few minutes of pretend relationship.

You're Beautiful 7-8! Angst! Uh, what happened to Jeremy's hair?? and ROFL at the field scene; the funniest scene in a drama as far as I can remember. Tae-kyung waving around his arms like he's pretending to be a fairy princess...haha. The toki/rabbit song is nostalgic since I remember it from childhood. And then the best friend bathroom scene..ahaha. These two episodes continue He-yi's hold over Tae-kyung, but you have to admire his abilities at slipping out of her demands without disobeying her. As with most even-numbered episodes, someone ends in tears. *weep weep* Tae-kyung needs a hug...so do Shin-woo and Jeremy and Go Mi-nam. I wish they gave He-yi a more sympathetic part to her character. I enjoy well-rounded bad guys.

Anyway, you gotta watch--
vikii for streaming
WithS2 for soft subs
You're Beautiful 5-6! I enjoy the fact that they tell Jeremy about Mi-nam's mother, but forget to mention the truth about her gender. As much as Shin-woo is cute and likable, I am going to pin him as the laughably kind character; the same type of trying-too-hard character that Lee Jun-ki played in My Girl. You have to feel extremely sorry for a guy who goes after a girl who tazers herself while trying to do the religious cross sign. He-yi, the stock b*tch character, makes some mischief in these episodes....yeah, nothing new there. Kdramas have got to start doing something differently when they try to create love triangles. When a guy tries to get between a couple, it is in the sweetest manner ever, but when a girl gets in between a couple, she does so underhandedly and loudly.

Despite this boring story development, you gotta love their rendition of the Girls' Generation/SNSD Genie MV. There's a hilarious making-of on youtube. The guys are enjoying the female outfits a little too much. I think 'Sorry Sorry' and 'Genie' were the two songs played most often this summer in the local Korean restaurants...thus, totally recognizable.
The worst part of watching an asian drama is that they'll play one or two pop songs so often that they get stuck in your head all day. Darn you, A.N.JELL.

Decided to spend some time looking into the charismatic actors of You're Beautiful.
Lee Hong-ki seems to have a big following. He plays Jeremy the drummer. He's actually in the boy band, FT Island (five treasure island).

Jung Yong-hwa is the nice guy, Kang Shin Woo. He's a member of C.N. Blue (code name blue). They are an indie band trying to debut in Japan. Maybe the Japanese like hard rock more than the Koreans?

Jang Geun-suk is the main character, Tae-kyung. He's done a little bit of solo work. He sounds odd in this song. He sounds more like his character singing this song from Beethoven Virus (at least I think it's a song from the show).

You're Beautiful 1-4! Decided to rewatch episode 1 & 2, since the other episodes seemed to have picked up on the wacky factor. Go Mi-nam decides to keep acting as her brother since his purpose for joining a boy band was to find their mother. She actually uses rubber balls as part of her disguise....HAHAHA, Tae-kyung's reaction! (The real Mi-nam is MIA because of botched eyelid surgery..HAHAHAAA). Mother Superior's advice about the naked boys...haha. Looks like Jang Geun-Suk (Tae-kyung) picked up tips on being a badass from Kim Myung-Min during Beethoven Virus. Tae-kyung has an impressive sneer and glare...partially helped by some nice eyeliner work. Another interesting revelation is that the nice guy 'Rui'-character, Shin-woo, may get the girl....if what the writers are hinting is in fact, true. Episodes 3 & 4 got me hooked. Totally amused at the writer's kind mockery of k-idol culture. It's amusing that Mi-nam tries to remember all the members of SuJu. (Sorry, Sorry is my favorite song).

Btw, their house looks hip and modern. I want it! (well, without the inside kpop decor).

Jeremy also has very unusual outfits. So cute.

You're Beautiful (aka. He's Beautiful..not sure which title is the official one) 1! kdrama featuring Jang Geun-seok (from Hwangjini and Beethoven Virus). A nun-in-training(like Maria from the Sound of Music), Go-mi played by Park Shinhye, gets recruited to replace her twin brother in a boy band, A.N.JELL. Jang Geun-seok plays the lead vocalist, Hwang Tae-kyeong, with a bug up his arse (I suspect it has to do with the witch-like mother). Other than the nun part, there's nothing really new as the boys and public are fooled into believing that Go-mi is the newest male member of A.N.JELL. (The summaries of the show say that her gender will be revealed to the other guys early on...a change for once). Of course, in true kdrama fashion, the female lead gets drunk and pukes in front of the male lead. It was a well-made episode, but if you've seen Coffee Prince or Boys Before Flowers, the humor and production feel the same. There wasn't enough over-the-top or unique comedy to get any laughs from me. The music was catchy, but it's pretty standard kpop. I'd recommend it if you want a tween-oriented drama to watch. Notes: I did totally love her pink scooter, but I wish the tight jean trend would go away. A much better summary here...

Firstly, a drama pick for this fall:
You're Beautiful is a kdrama about a cross-dressing girl in a boy band. It looks like my style of cornball humor.

Inuyasha: The Final Act 1! Alright, simultaneous release on Hulu and a guaranteed conclusion...even though I've finished the manga already, this looks pretty good. This re-introduction jumps right into the middle of the manga (Volume 36 by all accounts) and immediately throws all the characters into battle with the various offspring of Naraku. I don't recall if this is an exact continuation, but most news sites say it is. This isn't for new viewers, as it doesn't give any explanation as to what is going on. It is a good quickly-paced episode for the old fans. I didn't actually watch all 167 episodes of the original series, but it was easy to get an understanding of of this series if you know the major players as they seemed to harp on the shikon shards and Naraku for 56 Volumes. Anyway, unsure whether I'll follow this again (especially since they've got Volumes 36-56 to cover..another 100 episodes?), but it was a decent revival, and the ending visuals are pretty.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood 26! Isn't it time for a new opening song? Sukima Switch was reported to be doing the next one. Episode 26 was piped full of great plot points from the King Bradley flashback to that last scene. Totally amused at the ending shot.
