New drama part 3 - Notaries are cool
Feb. 4th, 2010 10:27 pmWe are expected to get a gigantic arseload of snow tomorrow. I'll be very sad if the weather people are wrong. I already stocked up on snacks.
I think this is actually the 4th new winter drama I've tasted.
Tokujo Kabachi jdrama 1! is about two public notaries which aren't too unlike US public notaries, and closer to arbitors or lawyers. Arashi's Sho Sakurai plays a newbie, gung-ho notary while Maki Horikita plays a young, bitter (anti-men), genius notary. This would have been better if the drama cutback on some of the gaudy slapstick and overacting. To introduce these characters, Newbie notary gets assigned to help the owner of a small grocery store while Anti-men notary gets assign to a wealthy money-lending friend. The friend needs money he lent the grocer back so his son can attend med school. The grocer doesn't have the cash. Their friendship is strained as a result. The notaries fire public law back and forth. Story continues into episode 2. Um...based on a manga, and you can tell by all the facts that are spit out (somewhat like the over-the-top Yakitate Japan method). Both fan-favorite actors fail to impress and the comedy is very lame. Maki Horikita looked like she was trying too hard to look evil and old(er)...especially with that cigarette she was trying to fake smoke. I'll put this on my skip pile.
