Berserk - Golden Age Chapter II - The Capture of Doldrey jmovie! picks up where the first left off as the Band of Hawks continue their string of victories for the king; a big victory at Doldrey as the title suggests. Guts saves Casca which makes them friendlier towards each other. Unfortunately, after the king knights them all for deeds well done, Guts decides that it is time to move on despite Griffith's claim on him. Griffith in the manner of all bad bromance break ups, sleeps with the princess...while thinking of Guts...yeah, that kind of bromance. Anyway, there was a peephole in the princess's door. The king is informed, captures and tortures Griffith. The Band is gathered in a field to be slaughtered. The second movie continues to be filled with flying body parts and animated nudity. The CGI was a tad clumsy at times, but overall, the story is still oddly intriguing. I'm still waiting for the supernatural parts of the story to come to light..guessing that the third/last movie might venture into some of that judging by the trailer.

Berserk Golden Age Arc I: The Egg of the King jmovie! One does love how japanese anime pairs the maniliest of men with the prettiest of men. I had no previous knowledge of the manga or tv anime, but this title has been around foreverrr. The characters and story turn out to be quite interesting; 'Guts' is an awesome character name, too. This arc will consist of 3 movies which will cover Guts and Griffith's backstory. Both are mercenaries in a medieval-like/fantasy setting. Griffith leads the successful 'Band of Hawks' while Guts starts off as a loner. Griffith observes Guts's strength on the battlefield and makes him his (ie. wins a fight against him and I'm sure the fanfics start with their dialogue from that scene). Griffith has a weird necklace with a prophecy (predictably, he will turn to the dark side according to wiki), but before then, he and Guts develop their bromance. Guts does whatever Griffith commands. Apparently the manga is pretty violent and gory. The movie doesn't hold back too much, but it is not as bad as it could have been. Some of the cgi is a bit stiff, but overall, the production is great. The first movie ends with Griffith charming the princess while Guts assassinates the heir to the throne per his bff's request. This is an absorbing movie and looking at wiki, it is a small part of a more complicated and epic tale. I only wish that the females characters weren't made of total fail.
