Gourmet 23-24! the end. As expected, the passing of Chef Oh leads everyone to unite to try to save the restaurant from the bad actors who are pretending to be Japanese chefs. Yay for 'Iron Chef' throwdown, Sung-chan and the restaurant's staff versus the 'Japanese' chefs for the future of the restaurant.

They compete by cooking up a full course meal. The first course is an appetizer of soup and salad. Guh, Sung-chan loses by one point. He was getting pretty depressed, but his not-so-pissy older brother, Bong-joo, sees the light and comes in to help right when Sung-chan looked like he was about to cry. The judges panel is made up of people from around the world, so there was running english commentary in the background. They eventually tied, but Sung-chan's team wins in the tie-breaker category.
Overall, Sung-chan's weakness is probably the fact that he focuses on the authentic Korean ingredients and foods. Bong-joo seems to be a better chef during almost all the competitions throughout the series by realizing the potential of global ingredients, and by catering to global tastes. On the other hand, if his business plans to take shortcuts in the kitchen had ever come to fruition, the original taste of the restaurant would be lost. Anyway, everyone realizes their faults by the end...even the useless Min-woo.

Appetizers...

The main course...

After that, they reconcile with the Japanese investor/chef who mainly wanted the restaurant to prove itself. Everyone is happy. Jin-Soo makes a bad dinner for Sung-chan. And the restaurant remake their sauces. Interesting to see another way to make miso outside of Osen.

And finally, Sung-chan and Jin-soo go off on another food adventure.

~7/10 rating~ Excellent production & acting, but the writing was predictable, thus, making me antsy during the serious parts. Bong-joo, their father, Min-woo, Joo-hee, her father and many of the other side characters were very annoying 90% of the time. Sure, they redeemed themselves at the end, but one episode isn't going to endear anyone. Maybe Sung-chan/Kim Rae-won was too sincere a character that everyone else looked like crap. I sincerely hope he does a comedy drama soon. Maybe I'll rewatch My Love Patzzi. The food displays and video shots were beautiful. Growing up with Korean food, this show made me hungry everytime I watched. It's odd that the screencaps always came out a little yellow or blue...maybe the video sources were bad.
I did watch Le Grand Chef a few weeks ago and will have a review of that. I liked Jin-soo's character in the movie version more than the kdrama. She seemed more mature.
