Iljimae...
Aug. 26th, 2008 03:03 pmWatched the end a few weeks ago, but didn't feel like writing anything back then. Then I went back to rewatch some parts and here are my impressions...

Iljimae 15-20! the end. Admittedly, I zoned out and got some of the older government/lords/army people mixed up; not that it actually matters much.
Episode 15's kisses were lacking steam. Bong-soo was cute though. She got my vote for best female character. Episode 16 put Yong's father in a very bad spot. His blind love for his son made him do some idiotic things which was pretty infuriating at times.

The king was a pretty interesting character. He initially seemed ignorant of his citizen's problems due to his supporting staff, but in these episodes, he was ruthless when he felt threatened. Moving on to episode 18 and its love of extraneous flips and staring. You gotta love when bad guys give the good guys a 100 or so chances to get away. *squee* For each plothole & cheeseball moment, there's a cute or fun moment which was why I enjoyed this show. It's fun to cheer Iljimae on, too. In episode 20, Iljimae and everyone (now that they all know who he is) help him free the young men who were dragged into the palace to fight in the upcoming war, steal treasure and food, and get Iljimae into the palace rooms, so that he can find out who killed his father(s). Even though the writers killed off many people who were important to Yong throughout the story, it always seemed like an optimistic show for Iljimae as he always triumphed. And I like to think Iljimae and assasin-monk ran off to the island together at the end. Why else would monk be buying shoes for him? The girls obviously had not idea where he was. :) ~8/10 rating~ for the series. It had a sometimes awkward production, but also had endearing characters and mostly fun story. Junki was oh-so-charming.
