The Tower of something or other...

seichanThe Tower of Druaga -the Aegis of Uruk- 1! The free streaming's quality at crunchyroll kinda sucks. They really are pushing you to donate at least $2 for the 300mb download, but first, I wanted to see if it was worth it (edit: you can pay 0.00, but you still have to go through the checkout process...and apparently, it may not let you put 0.00 on your credit card). The 'genki', young hero and narrator, Jil, is bestowed the power to defeat Druaga. One of his companions, a Sasuke clone, challenges him and ends up in his underwear. Yes, this is a fantasy-comedy.
+ The fun, happy opening features the cast in normal modern clothes and in their medieval clothes kicking ass.
+ The show is well-animated and has a great translation.
+ The main character's silliness is refreshing.
+ Gonzo takes a step in revolutionizing online entertainment with this show.
Quick summary ~ Jil and his companions are fighting evil in the Tower of Druaga. The first episode is of no consequence, but to say anymore would spoil it.
Quick opinion ~ The writers are clearly targeting the otaku--an otaku's anime. The RPG jokes are great and Jil's cluelessness is adorable. The only problem is is that the first episode held nothing new. Everything is well-made, but if you are looking for an action-packed anime with absurd comedy, Gurren Lagann does it a little better. Not quite sure if I'd continue to watch, but I do recommend this to anyone since it was indeed entertaining...
Crunchyroll's free streaming has some bad pixelization.
Youtube's screen is a little smaller, but is generally better.
Bosttv makes you login--no thanks.
I hope they publish stats on how well this experiment does, because it's a great show to see if simultaneous airing and donation-based downloads are profitable...or if it can undermine online pirating...or if Japanese companies can bypass the American middleman.
