Need more pastels

Honey and Clover 1! jdrama. Have to admit to being a little disappointed with this. The production was great, but the casting could have been better. I'm not totally convinced that Yamada, Hanamoto-sensei and Morita's characters are played by the best actors.


Yamada's not pretty enough, but I like her cute skirt. Hanamoto-sensei looks kind of like a slimeball rather than a cool guardian figure. Morita doesn't come out well...that actor, Narimiya Hiroki, never strikes me as a strong actor. The movie version was a little better. Mayama and Rika's age difference seems huge here. And yo, what's with the fast speed in the story? Anyway, this version seems to be developing the numerous love triangles right away. I hope that this isn't how they approach this drama since the original manga story was more intelligent than that. Overall, the first episode was sappy sweet and entertaining. Ikuta Toma was a decent Takemoto. Hm, there should be a warning at the end of the show --Do not cook food in a firing kiln. Do not eat from an unglazed clay bowl.

ETA: Another summary--Art students at school never really go to class. Takemoto, mediocre art student, meets his loli fantasy, Hagu. Hagu meets world. Takemoto has friends. For some reason they never have money for food. Morita likes loli girls, too. Mayama likes older women. Yamada likes guys with glasses. They all like curry and pizza. They all skipped the hazard lesson in art school. I think this story was more convincing in the anime. ^_^



Another drama I'm curious about now is Atsu-hime. I skipped over this because it was a Taiga drama, but look at the cast--Miyazaki Aoi, Horikita Maki, Matsuda Shota, Eita, Tamaki Hiroshi, Suzukaze Mayo (Rurouni Kenshin's seiyuu). The first episode already aired, but again, taiga dramas don't seem to be popular with the pirates drama crowd.

That would be awesome, but 60 episodes is a loooong show. Right now, I'm just curious since it looks pretty.

I think Gackt's taiga drama is getting subs, so maybe this one will, too since it has more star power.

Anyway, maybe you can get a couple episodes in...to see if there's an interest? *raises hand--i'm interested!*
