Music Tuesday
Feb. 6th, 2007 10:45 pmSuga Shikao's new CD collection is soooo entertaining my commute.
Korea must have some great tunes to offer, too, so I decided to venture into the realm of krock to further enhance mydeafness musical education. Since it was available, The Trax was what I looked into.
They are a group of 3 (used to be 4..the drummer split or went to the army) good-looking SM Entertainment (almost like Johnnys) boys who produce rock-ish music. From my impression of their varying sounds, I don't think they write their own music. Apparently Paradox, the first single, is the only exciting tune on their repetoire. And even though it first appeared that they are a goth-ish hard rock korean band that mixes rap into edgy flavored tunes, they are not. They range from sappy kdrama ballads to jpop songs that belong in boy-love anime. It's like they hop onto musical trends. The rap/rock songs when good like other kpop is a mix of nonsensical engrish and korean, but they aren't all bad. The vocalist has a great voice. I think most korean male vocalists have beautiful strong voices. The guitarist, bassist and former drummer are definitely cute. They are pretty similar to Glay in their overall presentation, but lack a distinctive sound. It's a shame that they only have a couple tunes with edge. Their guest appearance in TVXQ's Tri-angle tune was what sparked my interest, but I guess that pretty goth style was just a one-off for them.
Suemitsu and the Suemith's Allegro Cantabile PV is entertaining. I don't like the voice distortion, but it is a likable song. The mess of the black paint on the white piano is simply great color association.

Date: 2007-02-07 05:29 am (UTC)I've never liked any of the Korean groups well enough to stay a fan of any particular group. Kpop seems to overwhelm the music scene over there and it seems other music genres aren't as active..or maybe aren't as promoted.
I do like watching the kpop groups dance. Those Korean boys can dance so nicely. ^_^
