The Secret of Hanazono
Jan. 15th, 2007 06:49 pmHimitsu no Hanazono 1! is another jdrama which looked interesting to me.

+ Plot features a fictitious making of manga.
+ Cute guys.
+ Nicely made.
+ Opening song, Baby Don't Cry by Amuro Namie, is fun.
+ A reliable fast subtitler is working on this. (but look in the comment area of d-addicts for a fixed subtitle file...the original had some messed up timing)
Summary and impression~ Tsukiyama Kayo is working for a fashion magazine. She is about to hand in her resignation when the magazine gets the axe. Her former boss finds her a job in the shoujo manga department. She goes to the home of the mangaka, Hanazono Yuriko, to find a bunch of weird guys who decide to tease her and push her around all day. Needless to say, she expected the mangaka of a shoujo manga to be female. She finds out that the guys who are brothers are the mangaka.
The eldest is a typical weird otaku who does most of the drawing. The next one is a quiet guy who does most of the background. The 3rd eldest is the hot manager who does a little bit of toning and stuff. He is played by Kaname Jun who I sorta remember from Casshern and Grave of the Fireflies. The youngest boy is the smart-aleck writer played by Hongo Kanata who was Ryoma in the Tenipri movie.
I imagine the series will explore Kayo trying to assert herself at this weird workplace and trying to keep Hanazono Yuriko's secret (especially from her former boss who seems to have issues with Hanazono Yuriko). The first episode was cute and enjoyable and I will definitely watch more to see how it develops.
I also tried to watch Kimura Takuya's new drama, Karei-naru Ichizoku, but it was awfully boring. There's really horredously dramatic music and ugh, just a bland cast. A rich banker and his son who works in the steel industry fight about financial matters during the 1970s.
For those who wander here- Utada Hikaru's Flavor of Life PV which makes me think of candy or cereal; not the PV, the title. The PV features Utada in an unflattering outfit, but it is still a nice song.
