RL - When the pressure is on, avoidance per internet keeps me awake. 2 more months til it's hopefully gone.
Les Miserables - Shoujo Cosette 1! As the title suggests, this anime will focus on Cosette.

+ Nice quality animation,
- but Cosette with the huge, round eyes on the huge, round head...is a bit much.
+ Pleasant opening/ending and background music,
- but definitely not the musical.
+ I like how they say Jean Valjean,
- but Valjean's seiyuu is very brick-like.
+ Javert looks pretty darn cool.
Impression~ Fantinethe stupid leaves Cosette with some ugly innkeepers since she has a hard time finding a job with a child on hand. Valjean as Mayor Madeleine saves a young thief from being punished. I don't remember seeing any of Nippon Animation's other World Masterpiece Theater works, but I'm fond of re-introducing or remaking classics. Found it hard to really form a great opinion on this one episode. The episode was really laying on the cute, sad, pathetic & angst with a big slab of butter, and I don't think I will watch anymore...well, maybe to see how Javert makes out.

Date: 2007-01-09 12:27 am (UTC)Although, I suppose Cosette is the ultimate shoujo shoujo (brainless, "cute," possessing zero foresight, throwing all her hopes in the direction of a random man, pointlessly chasing romance, etc), so maybe it's actually appropriate. I'm still choosing to believe that you're joking and that you drew those screencaps.
I watched a recent-ish episode of Code Ass done by Shinsen, which was much better than the ones subbed by those dumb kids. They still couldn't do anything with the 'plot,' though. I will say, however, that the series has balls. It does ghey aimai AND hetero fanservice... at the same time!! Sometimes with the same characters!!! In the same scene!!!! Now that's cojones. Imbecilic garbage, of course. But still. Cojones.

Date: 2007-01-09 12:37 am (UTC)Shinsen's collaboration with Ureshii is said to be a bad one. The subs seem to be written in better english, but apparently there are translation errors. ah well. All mech series have a ton of fanservice. Code Ass is just lucky to have CLAMP design really pretty gay characters for it.

Date: 2007-01-09 01:04 am (UTC)Yeah, I know, I've watched at least some of almost every crap Gundam series ever made. It's just. There were boobs. And then five seconds later, fake gay angst. It was really something.
Um, I don't know anything about the Shinsen-Ureshii mashup, but inaccuracies or not, the quality there is DEFINITELY many times better than what was released by those pathetic little kids (at least, I assume they were kids; it'll be sadder for everybody if they're forty-year-old fanboys). Their subs are actually unwatchable. Which is hard to manage, but they did it.
The CLAMP designs might be good for the characters, but they're bad for me. My mental dialogue when I look at the series usually goes something like: "Ooh, my goodness, it's so pretty, it's really -- mmmmf. Nnng. AUUUGH I CAN'T TAKE THIS!!! OFF OFF OFF!!!!!" That's how I react to most Gundam shows, though, so it's not much of a surprise. And the boys will never get to really be gay, either, you know. It's just aimai for the Benjamins.
I also like your new LJ layout a lot! I forgot to mention it before. Really slick and clean. Very pretty.
