Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon 1! Unadaptable and convoluted were some descriptions of the original light novels. Sounds like a challenge to me. (I hope they don't stop the series in the middle of the adaptation.)

+ Decent production from Sunrise
- But sloppy action
- Generic character design...cup sizes are bigger than female head sizes.
+ Interesting premise
- Awful solo singer in the beginning, forgettable theme songs
+ Fukujun voices the main character

Quick impression~ I do love a main character that has a creepy smile. The first episode features a teacher challenging her students. The exercise introduces a large cast of characters and their powers. Toori, the smiley character, is absent during most of the episode since he was buying some ero game. The whole episode felt very messy to me, but there's a bit of hype surrounding this, so I'll give it a try. The naked pink eunuch/incubus? is interesting.

Chihayafuru 1! based on a manga about a card game.

+ Excellent production from Madhouse
+ Well-paced episode

Quick impression~ Despite the very dull premise and the fact that I know nothing about the card game, the show was surprisingly engaging. The animation production is probably the best out of all the new shows I've seen so far. There's a whole shoujo love triangle going on in the background, but the three characters are likable in their own way. Most of episode 1 was about Chihaya's childhood when she first met Arata and learned of his passion for karuta; a card game based on japanese poems/phrases? Taichi is her other childhood friend who was/is jealous of the attention Chihaya places on Arata, but it looks like he will also play the game. Will this create a karuta popularity surge like Hikaru no Go did for the game of go?
