a tad more...
Apr. 19th, 2006 08:40 pmbecause people kept mentioning it...

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi 1 & 2!
+ The title is sorta elegant.
- The bouncing boobs in the opening was a turnoff,
+ but was amusing the more I watched.
++ Tomokazu Sugita (Hideki from Chobits, Mayama from Hachikuro) as Kyon sorta sounds old for the character but is wonderful as the narrator/straightman. His constant and smart dialogue moves the show.
- The first episode kinda seems terrible,
+ but it was a fake and the show really starts at episode 2.
+ The animation is fluid, the design is nice, and it has funny moments.
+ The beginning is very similar to the live-action show, Boku dake no Madonna, where the story revolves around the main male character whose name is also 'Kyon' and his fascination with a weird, beautiful female who orders him around.
+ There is a cute dance during the ending song.
quick summary: Suzumiya Haruhi is not interested in humans. Kyon, a perfectly normal boy, sits next to her and becomes curious about her antics...and eventually converses with her. In one of their conversations, she gets an idea to start her own club to make life interesting. She recruits a few extras to join the show. There are aliens involved.
my opinion: Kyon's viewpoint is captivating. Haruhi herself isn't all that interesting. It's a well-made show which presents plenty of opportunities for giving guys fanservice (similar to how host club gives girls what they like). I'll try a few more.
Digimon Savers 1!
- cheaper animation than its predecessors.
- character design is less cute.
- fell asleep.
- no presence of Ken Ichijoji.
