Uh, there's some sort of Don't-post-to-LJ/content strike going on this Friday. Not sure what that is supposed to accomplish, since the best idea would be some sort of Don't-click-on-LJ-ads idea. That's where the guys think they are getting money. Or Hack-a-way-to-hide-LJ-ads forever. Anyway, I don't care about the ads so much as the rules changing and that supposed 'glitch'. Anyway, this weekend for sure is when I will read those how-to backup/migrate posts..between munching on choco-bunnies and jelly beans.

Finally got a chance to finish watching my xmas present from sis some time ago. Don't know what I was doing in 2005, but it wasn't watching Doctor Who. It's a charming series that quite a number of people have mentioned at least once on my flist. Though I was slightly familiar with the very old incarnation, I expected a bunch of hot guys in the newer series. But I'm now sure that all those comments I saw were mostly directed at that one cute gay actor. ha..lightbulb-on. It took a couple episodes for me to settle into the story, but it's quirky like the X-files was, and seasons 2-3 & Torchwood will probably be next on my list of brain-numbing entertainment. ^_^

While I totally agree with your views on what the blackout will (or won't) accomplish, I found myself really, really irked by the tone of the new president or owner or whoever he is in all the translated interviews that have been circulated. Thus no posting for me.

Incidentally, do you know if the console tweak has to be done every time you make a post in order to prevent it from being sent to Beacon, or is it a one time fixes all deal?

Yes, the new owner sounds ignorant of how user-driven lj is and if they try to control us too much, we'll just leave. Some of the new user stats at IJ and GJ are pretty impressive.

Actually don't know what the tweak is. I only know a little of what Beacon is, so can't help you out there. :)

Basically, the tweak involves going to the admin console and typing "set synlevel title", then hitting the "excute" button. If you run any communities, you should also enter "set for [name of community here] synlevel title".

What this *does* is tells lj not to send the entire content of your post to Beacon, as well as a record of every site you visit, how long you're there, and what exactly you did on it since you opened lj.

Obviously, letting Beacon do this is bad not only because it creates free content for them, but because you don't really want some third party compiling and archiving a record of what you do online.
