seichanNodame Cantabile Special 1st & 2nd Night! jdrama. Now, I'm really going to miss this show.
Since I started reading the manga where the television series left and even with Del Rey's errors, this drama special was easy to follow. It covers various manga highlights from volume 10 and on. There are tons of summaries out there already (i rec memento for screencaps & more play-by-play text), but basically the 1st 2 hour special focuses on the conductors' competition and the 2nd 2 hour part is where the focus is on Nodame and Chiaki's relationship and the start of their lives/career/education in Europe.
The casting was terrific. Jean was spot-on. Where did they get that foreign actor? The bassoon(viola in the manga) player's hair was so lovely. Franck and Tanya were cute. The fangirl in me liked Franck's hot dog nameplate and his otaku room which contained some Yotsuba, Dragonball, Hagaren, Cardcaptor Sakura & Chobits merchandise. And the supporting 'european' cast 'spoke' perfect japanese.
I thought this would be a hard part of the manga to create on-screen, but it definitely exceeded expectations. The writers did change some of the music pieces and some of the story such as switching out the chinese student for Kuroki, but they were good edits. Kuroki is hot..hehe. Anyway, Nodame made Mozart look so pretty. And Chiaki has such loving (watery, shoujo) eyes when he gazes at Nodame. ♥ The only downside was that I thought it would have been great to end the show with Nodame's performance. Chiaki's concert seemed somewhat anti-climactic at the end.
~10/10 rating~ for beautiful settings, truly funny slapstick humor, a perfect cast & fun music. Ninomiya Tomoko created a unique story and personalities for Nodame and Chiaki. The live-action drama conveyed her work so perfectly. Ah~ that fight scene was so nice.
