beware of lasers from outer space

Galileo 1! jdrama. This show got really high ratings and a movie planned after the first episode. Plus, the cast is well-known and oh course, incredibly good-looking...for actors over the age of 25.

Shibasaki Kou (from Orange Days) plays a rookie cop/detective, Utsumi Kaoru, who gets to work with Kusanagi Shunpei, played by Kitamura Kazuki (from Bambino). She admires his reputation that boasts his ability to solve any case; 'Mystery Hunter' is his nickname. He reveals to her that he gets the solutions from an old classmate of his, Yukawa Manabu, played by Fukuyama Masaharu (never really watched any of his work, but he's a singer). Yukawa is known as a genius in physics and a weirdo. This is like the Japanese version of House without the hospital setting or like the jdrama, Hero, without the courthouse. Yukawa is attracted to impossible-to-solve cases and has a impersonal attitude which causes him to say pretty blunt things. The first case is about a young hooligan who dies when his head bursts into flames. This is a nicely directed show with elaborate background music and great cast. There was a bit of corniness there when Yukawa was showing off his physics skills and parts where I thought the plot was too contrived, but I liked how they concluded the case. This wasn't exactly a feel-good drama nor a comedy nor action show. What is attractive about it is the cast and production. The dialogue was unexpectedly cute, too. It may be a keeper. Fukuyama and Shibasaki sing the end...it's a likable song.
