Baccano 1! is some sort of messed up early 1900's gangster sci-fi anime based on novels of the same title. There's definitely some seiyuu power. Sucker for Koyappi & Kappei. All the other characters sounded familiar, too. The first episode randomly threw all the characters together while the audience literally tries to figure out who is the lead. The animation is high quality and Yuki Kajiura nicely imitates Yoko Kanno once again. The story is intriguing as it mixes a whole lotta characters in one episode, but clearly, it is also confusing...but I'll watch more. Must see if Jacuzzi Splot is a valid character.
Naruto Shippuden 22-23! Sometimes I'm a fanboy. In these episodes, you learn that grandmothers should hug their grandchild every once in a while. Otherwise said grandchild might turn to the dark side. Some of the the serious parts were humorously animated. Sasori versus Chiyo & Sakura might go on for another fifty episodes, so might as well get the popcorn and caffeine.
Got around to watching this, too.
Gedo Senki ~Tales from Earthsea~ which probably wouldn't endear itself to anyone but hardcore Ghibli fans and Earthsea fans. To someone who knows very little of Earthsea (fell asleep three times trying to get through one Earthsea book and then gave up), the story was lacking in explanations and depth. It did however, have similar themes to other Ghibli films; power of names, balance of nature, one's fear, etc. Animation-wise, it was solid, but there wasn't anything truly fantastic or magical outside of the small part near the end. There were some cgi moments that looked out of place; the stone floor dropping, and some backgrounds looked too flat & pseudo-watercolor-like. I like Ursula Le Guin's response to the film. I find that it is probably the most accurate description of the film that anyone can write. Anyway, I don't think the film will do well in the States when it finally gets here, but for someone's first film? It did keep my interest up throughout most of the lengthy film.
