commercials are misleading...
Dec. 22nd, 2004 01:32 pmno surprise. geico, progressive, nationwide will not save you money. nor are they helpful at all. you will not save 10%. in fact, they'll be at least 10% more expensive than your existing insurance. insurance just drains money out of one's pocket for those who never use it. so dumb that you need it for the 'just in case' moments in life. i guess those larger insurance companies are good for those who are accident-prone..but actually the rates go higher when you do have an accident and thus, you pay for the damages over time anyway. and man, i thought it was supposed to be lower once you hit a certain age. it's just as high as it was when i first got my license. must be inflation. boo hoo.
blah. ketchup flavored potato chips are the grossiest thing ever. tastes like sour barbeque chips. smells like dried up ketchup.

Date: 2005-01-13 01:26 am (UTC)i had my nice 2000 Honda Civic Si stolen. it still makes me a little sad. i finally got money from metlife, but it took months and months (about 6 months) and tons of calling (there was a point where i was calling everyday for a while, then scaled back to once a week), and error checking.
first they basically accused me of stealing from myself, then they said they'd cut me a check for $3k to fix the car (i said, 'sure, if one of your "authorized" mechanics can restore it for $3k, go ahead, but the dealer said it'd be more like $11k so i think you're wrong. the car was pretty well stripped, have you even gone out to look at it?'), then they said to send it to one of their networked mechanics and everything would be taken care of (either they'd fix it, or cut a check for the full value), but instead of having everything go smoothly from there on with them talking to each other, i had to act as a messenger between them. blarg.
so metlife auto sucks. metlife rental insurance is cool, tho. they gave me a check for the stuff that was stolen out of my car w/o any of these problems. apartment rental insurance covers the stuff in your car. that's pretty cool. if i hadn't gotten comprehensive auto insurance, i would've had been stuck w/ a $15k loan for the privilege of driving a car for a year. that would've been even less fun.
