Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko 1! had to watch the new SHAFT production...

+ Quality animation
- Yawn story

Quick impression~ A young boy moves to the city, and has to live with a young female weirdo who spends much of the episode wrapped up in a mattress, showing off her legs. She claims to be an alien sent to observe Earth..or something like that. This is another bland boy meeting sci-fi-like moe story similar to the Suzumiya Haruhi series, but there's only so many of these types of shows one can watch without barfing up lunch.

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai (Anohana) 1! Jintan sees dead people

+/- Adolescence = angst
+ Nice animation

Quick impression~ Childhood friends drift apart when one of them dies. Jintan, now a hikikomori, sees the ghost of his childhood friend. She bugs him to fulfill her wish. Though the summary sounded boring, the show was nicely produced. The only downside is that the ghost has the predictably moe personality found in Denpa Onna and a zillion other shows.

C - Control: The Money and Soul of Possibility 1! doesn't the summary sound like a recent movie?

+ Decent visuals
- but iffy animation
+ Promising story

Quick impression~ My impression of this show is similar to my first impression of Eden of the East where a reality similar to now has a dark twist; the opening & ending visuals are very much like Eden. Like the title suggests, this story involves money; money is the root of all evil...nah, couldn't be. A young student just wants a government job so that he is guaranteed to have steady income. Somehow Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter offers him an opportunity to make more money. Early in the episode we see an older guy who did take the deal battle an experienced 'Entrepeneur' in the 'Financial District' and lose. If you ever wanted finance to be interesting, throw in a demon, some sort of card game, moe-like fairies and a battle to the death.

Toriko 1-2! If you thought Yakitate Japan was over-the-top for bread, this is equally over-the-top for exotic ingredients.

+ FT Island's Satisfaction is the ending theme. Go FT Island!
+ the opening theme is quirky.
+ Silly story

Quick impression~ Toriko is a big, macho 'gourmet hunter' who uses his hands as a 'knife' and 'fork' to kill wild animals and find exotic ingredients to eat. He actually yells out 'forku!' and 'knifu!' before he attacks. I guess this is a manga that vegans and environmentalists would fear. The first episode was a xover with One Piece. Luffy et al. land on an island where Toriko is also hunting. They start killing all the big animals and eating them..and then they eat the island. The second episode goes back to where Toriko meets a small gourmet chef who hires him to get a Gararagator..a gigantic alligator. They eat it. Hm, this is quite amusing, but after 2 episodes, I think the novelty has worn off.
