Pumpkin Scissors

Pumpkin Scissors 1! oops, I must've gotten a later airdate. Those tricksies tv programming and wrong fan databases. The opening song is sung by the same female who did Cruel Angel's Thesis from Eva. Yoko Takahashi sings an okay action-filled song that is accompanied by the usual visuals of the main characters. The ending song is a high-energetic happy anime song with cutesy visuals. The main characters include a big, burly, dumb-looking, but nice man, Orland (which seems to be the spelling so far) and a rich-girl turned spunky, military-girl, Alice who has the traditional wimpy and geeky sidekicks. The animation seems on par with Hagaren or Scrapped Princess.
+ cool title, good production & animation.
+ Orland gets an interesting 'crazy' look in his eyes which leads to violence of sorts.
- Not sure that this particular military story will keep an audiences' attention with the other great anime starting this season.
+ There seems to be a long-haired bishonen somewhere in the opening song.
Quick impression- There was some war and now there are still bad guys who do bad things to the regular folk. The good guys try to help da people. There's a sort of plain-ness or already-done-that to the story that doesn't immediately capture me. Judging by the preview of the second episode, I don't think I'll continue this series, but I may try another episode. I do like Orland even though he is a typical nice guy character who is trying to let go of a bad past which presents itself as a sorta split personality...like Kenshin. He also carries a lantern which may be the source of his name; a play on
ETA: currently enjoying NBC's Heroes drama. There's gusty gross things, dorky geeky things, and brotherly love that will spin-off many a gay fanfic.
