Buy a trashy novel instead of a graphic novel

Yen Press has dropped down to TP's level in terms of designing/marketing JP light novels. They seem to think that there are more people wanting to be seen reading a book with a naked woman on the cover than a 'manga' girl. They do try to redeem themselves to the fans by offering the original slip cover design when you buy their magazine. Honestly, they should have just used the original back cover as the front cover to reach a wider audience. And really? They are including the original illustrations anyway. So anyone picking the novel up will know what kind of novel it is? What are they trying to change? or hide?

..I think I am done littering my lj today. :/

..okay this is just bizarre o_O self consciousness on a whole new level. Poor otaku boys.

I saw a presentation on the anime last weekend sitting next to a Japanese manga-ka, and she asked me if it was normal not to make any attempt to indicate the fact that Horo speaks like an old man from 1200 years ago in the subtitles, and I said mostly because it's pretty difficult. So my point is, between the translation and the cover, a good portion of the spirit of the original is just gone.

I think it's okay that the subtitles won't convey the 'old man' accent since Horo/Holo's accent is very, very obvious. I fear what they do to the dub (I forget which company licensed this). The novel cover just fails. Yen Press seems to have made their first bad step in alienating anime/manga fans. They were doing so well, too.
