Bartender 1! This is like the flip-side to Yakitate-Japan. (revised review)

+ Appearance-wise, there is nothing spectacular, but it's nice.
- Storywise, it's not funny nor dramatic...nor is there a big overall plot.
+ Pleasant male-female duet opening. Nice slow tune at the end with live-action shots of a bartender making a pretty drink.

Quick impression~ There is a bar, Eden Hall, where a bartender resides and is able to remember drinks he made for customers he had a long time ago. Each episode seems like it'll have a customer with a problem. They solve it with alcohol. hehe, yes, that sounds bad...but hey, they are legal adults there. The bartender looks like a grown-up Azuma Kazuma. 'God's glass' is said a few times...I hope they are joking. I may watch a few episodes of this since it is refreshingly plain. Episode 1 was about a man who had a crappy professional life and hates bars. He gets water-ed down whiskey. woot.

Hwangjiny 1! has made it's way over on youtube. It's quite beautiful with the traditional Korean setting and clothing, but like Goong, the initial awe may fade if the characters' personalities don't hold. I'm hoping that the premise lives up to the hype. This is about a famous gisaeng (like a geisha but more of a dancer/musician/entertainer), Hwang Jin-y during the Joseon period. I'm guessing she attracts alot of men, but there is probably one true looooove. The show features alot of historic day-in-the-life-of scenes which are interesting. The story starts out when Hwang jiny is a little cute girl who sees a group of gisaeng performing.

yay, I was going to ask you to watch hwanjingy and translate it for me ... what is going on with the blind lady?

i'm pretty sure that's her mother. she's also a gisaeng. she probably doesn't want her daughter to be one.

even though i think i might not like the whole power struggle of all those women, it's too pretty not to watch a few episodes. not sure if i can make it through 30 episodes. ha ha. i'm really hoping for some comedy.

I thought it was probably something like that.

I like how their hair is lopsided. And the fancy parasol-hats they wear in the streets.

I think the little girl is kind of creepy though with her constant smile. Cult-devotion-creepy. Maybe she'll get more entertaining when they put her in cute mini-gisaeng outfits.

He gets water-ed down whiskey. woot.

I sure hope he gets 'watered-down whiskey'! Or he's in for a long lonely life sleeping in doorways wearing nine hats.

I tried to watch Bartender, but it was too boring. It's like Cheers, only with no characters or plot. Or point. It was somewhat Zen, actually. A perfect circle of akldfj. I tried it out 'cause I thought it was BL, but wow was I wrong. It's not even L. Or B, for that matter.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go hyperventilate and download Death Note and D. Gray-man, from which I was suffering serious withdrawal, because my internet just got turned back on after a week. LADFSAKSF.

Also, Kiniro no Corda was HORRRRRRRRRIBLE!!!!! No gay could save that.

i think the "gay" characters will be in the shonen fighting animes...
dgraymen, busou renkin, ayakashi ayashi, code ass

the other option is marginal prince which was bad.

glad to see you are back. no internet is a sad thing.

Yeah, but "gay" usually causes me non-compensable emotional trauma, because most of the time it ends up "married" to "female characters" who ought to have been put through a "meat grinder."

I'm watching Code Ass and D. Gray-man, but I don't think I could stand Busou Renkin or Ayakashi Ayashi. I've read too many icky het doujinshi about the characters to ever imagine them being gay. Or doing anything else.

Yeah, Marginal Prince doesn't look great. I hate the half-assed homo.

No internets is the saddest thing in the world. The only thing worse than no internets is no internets AND no electricity. Then you can't even charge your iPod. That's a pit of despair from which there is no escape.
