K-ON is surprisingly short and sweet.

K-ON! 1-13! is an anime about four high school girls in a light music club (which is just a band...not sure what the 'light' refers to.) In the first episode we learn that the club needs 4 members to survive. Yui (soon to be guitarist) is an abnormally klutzy girl who wants to do something new in high school. She spent most of her life being a bum (darn cute flashbacks) and thus, she joins the music club without knowing how to play any instrument. The other three members are Ritsu (the outgoing drummer), Mio (the shy bassist) and Tsumugi (the kind keyboardist).

It's a feel-good high school drama similar to that of Minami-ke. The animation is much more consistent than Minami-ke's production. It starts off a little slow and you wonder where the music is (outside of the opening and ending), but halfway through, Yui's hidden genius is found, and they perform at the school festival. Woot for Laruku reference. And then time zooms onto the next school year, a new member, and the next festival.

The animation and character designs are consistent and cute. The music is also quite good in a pop-happy way. Music include songs titled 'Fuwa, Fuwa Time' and 'Fountain Pen'. I can understand why the series' music cds have done well on the Oricon charts. The songs are just optimistic. One of the more heartwarming aspects is the sister relationship between Yui and Ui; so squishy. Cute girls in a club that play happy music, munching on yummy desserts and dressing up, what's not to like? ~8/10 rating~ Now, where is my high quality boy band anime?

And the upcoming figures for the series have excellent detail, and the poses are dynamic. The guitar looks awesome.
