Shingeki no Kyojin 10-11! Armin finally stops being a wimp...The commander decides to use Eren's power to take control of Trost. I am still impressed by the way they animate the movement through the city.

Chihayafuru S2 22-23! An injured Chihaya naturally loses quickly to Shinobu, so the final game is Shinobu vs. Arata. 23 is about Taichi who actually shines through...for Chihaya's sake. Hope they show a little of Arata's game in the last episode...it'd be nice to see his personality.

Hunter x Hunter 2013 83-84! Gon, Killua and Kite continue to kill their way to the Queen. The other HxH arcs were more fun because the characters were having fun or they encountered fun companions, but so far, nobody is having a good time. While the ant arc is interesting in its own right, it's also a shame to see Gon slowly losing his innocence. The poor Hunter who did not die earlier gets his brain scrambled and tells the Ant Chimera, Pitou, all about Nen.

Kotonoha no Niwa (Garden of Words) jmovie! the newest work from Makoto Shinkai is about a young boy who skips school on rainy days to work sketch shoe designs in a local park. He meets a young woman who likewise skips work on rainy days. They bond during those rainy days. It's a tender unrequited love story. As with Shinkai's previous works, the animation is rich with color and detail. ~7/10 rating

Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo jmovie! It's been 14 years since the events in the 2nd movie and Shinji wakes up to the rest of the world 14 years older than him. Misato now leads a group against the Evas and NERV. There isn't enough logic in this universe that can accurately explain what actually goes on. Most of the character just react on emotion. They really need to fill Shinji (and the audience) in on what is going on. Anyway, Shinji plus Kaworu almost trigger a 4th impact. This movie had pretty entertaining visuals like the previous movie, but storywise, this movie wasn't as entertaining as the previous. ~7/10 rating

Man of Steel movie! I enjoyed the epic movie with the epic music and epic-ally hot actor. The dialogue was lacking, but forgivable. The style of storytelling was refreshing.

Movies!

Just general fangirling: Iron Man 3 was entertaining. Seems to be some hate from fans who wanted something more serious, but it was a pure fun kick-off-the-almost-summer-movie-season-type movie.

Star Trek Into Darkness...drools all over screen, <3 all the characters. This is the best fan-candy interview which doesn't feature any of the main actors:

Maybe I just watch too many similar-type movies, but both movies were fairly predictable (not that that diminishes the overall enjoyment).

Django Unchained: I guess this is the last 2012 movie I've seen. It was as fun as Inglourious Basterds, but not as refreshingly so.

Just started using Windows 8...the new start window is easy to use but their app market is pathetically sparse. Still, I'm glad I didn't need to buy new software this time.

Byebye 2012.

Les Misérables: Woooah, close-ups. Hugh Jackman was excellent. Russell Crowe was not as terrible as those actors in Mamma Mia, but I wish he had exuded more passion or something. Agree that the last half was lacking...Movie Marius x Cosette were just as bland as the stage version. Eponine's eyebrows were too manicured; didn't really enjoy her in the 25th anniversary concert either. Thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but still think the 10th anniversary stage concert is the best. :) I did see the musical on stage a looong time ago, but would still jump to see it again.

Two more movies to cram in this year. :D

The Hobbit! This LOTR 'honest trailer' that came out last week was amusing. Anyway, enjoyed the movie, understand ~65%, and hope that the next two are better. Need more Sherlock x Watson in the meantime....but will settle for Star Trek.

Had a long weekend and watched The Dark Knight Rises which was an appropriate ending to the trilogy. I might have thought more highly of it if I hadn't seen Avengers earlier this year, and if The Dark Knight hadn't been so tight. Anyway, it was a great movie and I was amused what they did to my hometown. I have more thoughts on the characters, but here's a cut for somewhat spoilery thoughts:

will name my future pet, Batman )

Got free tickets + popcorn + drink to the advanced screening of Captain America in 3D. Didn't think that that particular comic book character could be portrayed convincingly, but Chris Evans does so quite sincerely, plus, he's cute. It's a fun summer movie with humorous one-liners and an uplifting atmosphere. The studio's got a smart thing going; watch Iron Man, Thor, Cap-Am, Avengers...possibly go back and watch The Hulk. Anyway, 3D's not great, but eh, it was free. :)

On Thursday, I saw that Neville Longbottom, Mrs. Weasley and Albus Severus Potter were trending on Twitter (this link for Neville..haha). Snape popped up later that evening. It was easy to guess which scenes they were talking about. I went and saw the movie this morning. I liked that all the important parts were great, and enjoyed all the special effects. I only started reading the books when the 3rd one came out, so it's been a fun ~11 years especially with the fandom works/rants out there.

Here's a little figurine my sister got me from the traveling exhibit last year. Its head and wand kept coming off, so I finally gorilla glued it yesterday. Sadly, Danboard will have to stand in for Voldemort.

Enjoyed the X-Men: First Class movie. I expect a surge in a certain genre of fanfics. I have to admit that Kevin Bacon was just Kevin Bacon to me. Are they really expecting 55M this weekend while Pirates got over 100M? X-Men was definitely better than Pirates, but didn't have any Johnny Depp-type stars. Anyway, go see. It's fun.
